I would not say that they recognized they had an issue, nor do I think you have a place to call the design a POS. There are absolutely many out there who love that shifter and wouldn't think of changing it out. And they are still being sold today. As I've said before, I think people who demand they "stand behind" a perfectly functional product are unrealistic, certainly regarding the core rebuilds. I mean the parts of significance were made by GM, they are what they are. The fact is the shifter needed to change for the lack of sufficient core supply. Products evolve for various reasons all the time, from cost to manufacturing, but outside of software I've never heard of an "upgrade program", and I really don't think it's going to happen here.
Yep, this is true, they are being sold. I sold my broken MTI Six Shooter shifter to a forum member. However, according to Seth at MTI (770.919.7774) they don't have any shifters to sell
I might also add that I offered to send them my core for free if they paid for shipping.....They refused.
The B&M shifter does not rattle and as an added bonus it even goes into reverse. Just like a factory shifter but better!
Actually I can assure you there are three shifters in stock at MTI, but they are only sold in house because of the core issue. They're tired of the hassle. And I know a place where 20 more sit ready to go, so yes they are available, and yes I'm speaking of the first gen units. There are no others right now.
I can assure you that your MTI shifter too would go into reverse if you would have installed it right. But hey you've been through that in your classified sale post that got shut down. I suspect your buyer will show you that it does indeed work fine when you follow the directions.

You know, I'm confused. I called MTI and was told by Seth that my problem was that I removed the alignment pin. I tried to explain to him that I had no choice.
I'm always willing to learn. I'll be happy to call you, or you can call me. But the instructions are pretty clear. How could I possibly not install the shifter correctly? Please, be a stand up person and share.
If you read the instructions, there is no mention of the alignment pin after it is removed with the stock shifter, because if you follow the instructions there is no reason to use it after that. The factory instructions have you remove the entire shifter including the base box, which involves uncoupling from the linkage. There is no need for anyone to do this unless the base box fails. GM writes it this way because they only sell the complete shifter with the base box. Sadly some how-to websites also mistakenly use this approach, it's unnecessary and a bad idea. For DIY'ers in the field there is way too much chance for improper alignment if the box is removed, and for a shifter change there is no reason to do it. The shifter itself is the only part that should be removed, as instructed, and hence there is no need for the alignment pin as the base box is not removed. Any removal of the base box and ensuing alignment problems are the responsibility of the installer as they have gone outside of the scope of the necessary work.

Sir, you are absolutely right Perhaps you should explain this to the owner of MTI. This is where Seth claims he got his info from.
Now sir, please step up to the plate and tell me how I did not install the "POS MTI Six Shooter" correctly.
Somehow, I managed to install the C-6 shifter and the B&M shifter without a problem. Also, without a noise.

Not a problem... I'd gladly pay for the upgrade... Another MTI fan suggested that was for software. Maybe so, if you don't like the upgrade word... call it a trade it. Gimme $50 bucks for it on trade, and I'm happy. Blow me off and you have lost my business.
MTI can surely find a solution to please customers and still make a profit. I'm not asking them to lose money... I know there is no Santa.

I would think most people would be insulted by an offer like that ($50), but if they're receptive to it there may be a chance for that. The problem with trade-ins is restoring the parts to new for resale. At that price level restoration costs would be worthwhile, and even more like you say it's worth it to not lose the customer. A resolution is still not ready, so this is speculative, but I would support a $50 trade in. But keep in mind I don't make the final decision. I don't know how many people will be satisfied with $50, but it's better than nothing. I'm certain parts that have been permanently modified (ie cut shorter or welded etc) won't be eligible.
C'mon, we're talking about a Shifter here, it isn't exactly rocket science. I'm sure the rattle did not come from a problem with the installation.
Performance gain from a performance product is different from a shifter rattling. I won't return my Kooks headers if they didn't make the advertised power numbers, but if they rattling because they weren't designed right then I'd have returned them. If the MTI shifter didn't shift the way I thought it was going to shift I wouldn't be complaining, then I would just sell it and maybe someone else will be fine with it. But how am I suppose to sell a shifter that rattles at idle?? I can probably sell it and tell people that it doesn't rattle like MTI did and screw someone else over but I'm not going to do that.
I guess were gonna have to agree to disagree. I will agree with your first statement, " C'mon, were talking about a shifter here", your right not a big deal so perhaps we can all "move on".
At this point we are going to just have to wait. I know it's already been a while. The $50 trade-in is possible in my mind, but not definite as I don't make the final call. The new shifters are not yet ready, mostly due to a very slow machine shop or machining related issues. But we are near the end. I want to move this along as fast as I can, but it depends on various people fitting this work into their schedules. When these parts are finally ready MTI will make an annoucement.
As a matter of fact not only do I own one I was one of the Beta Test cars. I have tested each and every iteration they have sold. Each and every iteration has never ever made one bit of noise and every shifter I have ever tested shifted perfectly. The caveat is........ they were all installed by the technicians at MTI Racing.
Like I said before, I hope things will work out.

You don't have a Z06 according to your profile, were these shifters installed on a coupe? It was mentioned in another thread that these shifters only rattle on Z06 cars, something to do with coupes having an extra gasket or soemthing.

Yes I have a coupe (targa) and there were several "Z's" also tested. You are correct on the coupe having a slightly different set up. To my knowledge they experienced no vibration or buzz on any beta testing cars. I know it was on their track car which is a "Z" and worked fine. I have ridden in several of the C6 Z06's and interestingly enough they all buzz and/or rattle under heavy acceleration with the stock shifter. There may be more of a challenge getting that buzz under heavy throttle out of the "Z" configuration. I have seen several post where folks installed a heavy shift **** (like MGW) and that eliminated the buzz under throttle. What you guys are describing sounds much more severe than a rattle or buzz under heavy throttle.

From what I can gather from Seth at MTI (770.919.7774) they couldn't install one of these shifters
I recently installed a Hurst shifter in my 03 Z and noticed rattling and no matter what spring combination I used the shifter is hard to shift from side to side. I went so far that I even put a washer on the detent on the transmission and it is still hard to shift. The hardest gear to shift into is 6th. I also am experiencing a rattle from the shifter. I realize everyone on this thread is takling about the MTI shifter, but was wondering if anyone could shed some light on my rattling and hard shifting problem. Thanks.

My trans is tight and hard to shift. This has been the case with all the shifters. I might suggest using Royal Purple as a lube in your trans. This seemed to help.
