C5 vs ls2 GTO
I don't street race.
Luckily I didn't ask about road racing, because without a couple grand into the suspension I'd be getting my *** handed to me in spades.
But it's a GT Grand Touring anyway
I am 6'4 and 240lbs...I have no problem at all getting in and out of the Vette. I don't know where you are getting this info.
I'm looking for knowledgable feedback and intelligent discussion based on owners experiences, which I have gotton here. Thanks to those who are sane and have replied! Lots of good feedback!
Although a STOCK car is harder and harder to come by these days, seems like everyone has mods. Hell I'm saving up for long tubes headers as we speak. With a tune I should be near 450 bhp. Gotta love the lsx!
Yes, the hood scoops are non-functional ram air, just like the ls1 Camaro SS, but they do evacuate heat from the engine bay, which is always a good thing. Helps keep IATs down. Also I think they add a aggressive nature to the front of the car, without going overboard. Ymmv.
QUOTE: my c5 without me in it and a 1/2 tank gas is 3130 lbs
I seriously doubt you are at 3130. Z06s are at that level. From what I recall C5s are closer to 3250, curb weight. Curb weight includes gas (at least C&D it does), as goes the 3700 lb curb weight of the GTO. You'r comparing 4000 lbs with driver to C5 non-driver? What kind of logic is that? That's a neat 500 lb dif. Not trying to argue just for the sake of arguing, but I think your facts are off. Have a link? Regardless the power-to-weight edge goes to the C5 by a small margin...
I realize we have swayed from the original question. Serves me right for posing about a Sports Sedan in a vette forum.
There's always going to be bashers of the GTO, but it's holds it's own market segment. There is no competition. Picking up a low mileage ls2 GTO for low 20s is a sweet deal! They handle good for what they are, and with a few grand in suspension are M3-like. Not to mention, gotta love that ls2...Seriously I am starting to believe it's a drivers race. One missed shift or one non-redline gear and whomever you are racing are instantly back a few car lengths. 50 hp is good (I dynoed 347 bone stock) and has great top end, where the ls1 starts to run out of air (reletively speaking). My vote: too close to call. But then again, how many C5 drivers actually can drive a stick?

I am not going off facts I actually weighed my car on a scale meant for cars, so yes I AM on that level, my buddies 04 Z06 with the same gas and him out of it was exactly 60 lbs LIGHTER, so if the curb weight of a 06 GTO is 3700 with half tank gas (they are 3725 with full gas), add a 175 lb driver you are at 3875 lbs, my vette with me in it weighed 3280 (1/2 tank gas) so you are at 600 lbs heavier, face it gto's are turds PERIOD and most of the vettes on the road have something done to them weither it be just a intake or exhaust and it will still be a damn good run for the ls2 gto. you dynoed 347 stock, vettes dyno around 315 + STOCK so another 32 WHP is NOT ENEOUGH TO PUSH 600 LBS MORE in a race to pull on a C5. Again I can sit here all night and argue about this with you and you will continue to be bashed

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Seriously the 3.42 in C5s and fbody is bogg city! Us Goats have C5 Z06 trans ratios, much better all around.
So I'm hearing it will come down to a drivers race. Stock GTOs have been known to dip into the high 12s, good driver low 13s easy, average mid 13s. We are under-tired for sure. 245s in back.
We come in at ~3700 lbs, maybe 500 lbs heaver? Power to weight ratio is C5 - 9.14 lb/hp, ls2 GTO - 9.25 lb/hp. Pretty damn close!
The Pontiac Grand AM or GTO, is cool if your my 64 year old dad. Actually I take that back, he knows vettes are cooler...unless its the GTO of yesteryear.
The next time you valet park a GTO, see where they put it...in the back, with the mini vans and Hondas. My vette is always out front, with the Lambos and Ferrarri's, in Hollywood, not some podunk town in the middle of nowhere. That pretty much speaks for itself.
The other thing to consider is, most of the folks on this forum havent had a stock vette in years. Yeah a GTO may have beaten me 5 years ago when I bought my car. Try racing me in one now= Ba bye!
My dad can beat up your dad, my cars faster than your car, my sneakers are faster than your sneakers...put up or shut up....."bench racer"

Is that a joke? I love my vette but Ferrari and Lambo are a whole different class of car. Sorry. When did vette owners get so cocky? Did I miss a memo?
Obviously getting into a car so low will be harder than getting in a car that sits so much higher. A price I'm definitly willing to pay though. I love the low feeling.

I love the low feeling.Your completely missing the point. The GTO was brought back...and it was a failure. The Camaro was discontinued and now there is discussion of bringing that back, and if GM sticks to plan, the car will be sick. The TA had its hey day but it went out in style.
What I'm saying is, you have a lot of ***** comparing that poor excuse for a modern day muscle car to a Corvette, nevermind the true GTO's of the 60's and 70's. Muscle cars were made to go and they were made with attitude. The attitude the new GTO has is...lame.
If you want driveability and performance and you don't care for vettes, or looks, buy a Suburu WRX!
I think chrylser should bring back the Cuda, but they shouldnt make it look like a Sebring!
No, its not a joke, when I drove to Vegas and the valets parked my vette next to a Lambo, Ferrarri and Bentley, in front of three Casinos, I got cocky when I went to Sunset Blvd and my vette gets parked next to Ferrarri's and Lambos in front of lounges on a weekly basis. I got cocky when I bought my first vette when I turned 21 and I got more cocky when I bought my second and suped it up before I was 25.
Try leaving NJ, come out to LA were Lambos and Ferrarri's are daily drivers and you will see what I'm talking about...Focker.

Heres my point. Its vette owners like you who think your car is hot sh*t that give the rest of us a bad name. I can't say how many times I've been asked "why are vette owners such a-holes?' Now after this thread I think I have a better understanding of why. Your vette is nothing compared to a Ferrari. Dont be foolish and think your a class above a GTO cause somebody parked your car next to a Ferrari. Thats a complete joke.
Oh and bravo on getting a vette in your 20s. I'm sure your the only one.
Did anybody tell you that c5's arent expensive cars? Maybe I should get cocky. I suped my vette up when I was 24 too. And to top it off its probably faster than yours too!Show some class and respect others rides. Vettes arent the only cars out there.
