As for saying you are not impressed with the performance, the LS1 is much smoother than the LT1 so it does not seam fast but it will whip an LT1.
If you want to compare apples to apples, compare the LS1 to the LT4, not the LT1.. Good luck on whipping the LT4. ...... and the LS1 would undeniably get whipped by the LT5.

If the C4 is a better performer and the C5 is too much like a luxury Town Car, everyone should disconnect their power steering... if you demand a better feel for the road.

Maybe if I couldnt afford a newer vette, I would put the better model down to my fellow underachievers also.
Who can't afford a C5 ?

If you're going to do that, might as well compare the LS6 to the LT5 my friend.

Whatever, most Corvette owners don't have a clue what their car can do. They quote magazine times My magazine can beat your magazine. A LT1 Corvette will go low 13's so it getting whipped is a bit of an exageration especially since those comments usually come from guys who refer back to the my magazine can beat your magazine rather than timeslips.

That makes no sense. Your upgraded engines to the C5 base engine? LT-1 vs. LS-1 and LT-4 vs. LS6 makes sence.

Actually, timeslips are way more variable. Track, driver, weather, altitude, and tires are never consistent. And bone stock to bone stock is the only fair comparison. Not many cars on the strip are. So published times by magazines and manufacturers are a better tool.

You left the LT5 out of the equation.

True. The C5 never got a super expensive, super high performance version. The LT-5 and LS-6 are rated at the same hp. The LT-5 is smoother and has 500 more RPMs, but the LS-6 is lighter and cheaper. The Z06 can outperform the ZR-1, but not because of the engine, because of the wieght and chassis. The two engines are a fair match even though they are very different. The LT-5 is cooler but I feel more comfortable with an LS-6 as my dialy driver. I wave to C4s by the way. Rarely do I get a wave back. Most don't even notice me as though I were driving an Accord.

I can't argue against that. (except for the Accord thing.) I try to wave to all C5's and any other vettes if I see 'em.

4799-5799?? Where in the world do you find your vettes? if you can find a decent mile running c4 for that much than you must be privy to information that no one else has.

I too owned a C4! You are absoloutly correct, they are a world appart.

I on the other hand would have loved to have both, but the C5 won over in the fact that the C4 was a continuous tail hopper! The C5's do handle a lot better and jsut like any other Vette it's the newer Generation!

Some guys are selling their C5's and getting C6's but many are sticking with the C5 for the same reason you are with your C4!

I say, enjoy it as long as you can because! It's a Vette and C4's do rock!

Thanks,Matt

I think that not everyone is moving to the C6 because the C5 is virtually a C6 minus 50hp, but the extra hp isnt worth the $$. Then there is always the issue of which looks better...

Regarding the LT4 vs LS1. I also just sold my LT4 c4. The 96 LT4 was a good, solid, fast car. The best of the c4s. But it was only equal to the LS1 in performance at best. Ill keep my c5, thanks.
