Yup, that's what I got. When I bought my car about 6 months ago the filter was very dirty. Since I couldn't find the CAI on their website, I called them to buy a new filter. All the guy would say is they don't support that system anymore. Seemed odd at the time. Now I know why. So I took measurments and ordered the biggest K&N that would fit in there. Mine looks better than the one pictured. I don't know if I want to swap it out though. It looks and works good and I would still have a hole in my radiator duct.
They told me I could go directly to one of their approved shops and just get the work done, or I can decide where to have it repaired. I still have GMPP. so that's a consideration too . . . And although I want it done well, I can't see making AAA pay a gold plated bill, that's not right.
Despite the circumstances your outlook makes it seem as though you have some good kharma coming your way. Hopefully it surfaces here with your repairs. Best of luck.
My son drove my Acura into standing water and hydrolocked it. A police car followed him and also hydrolocked. The storm sewer was blocked. GEICO totaled the car under comprehensive. Paid $5500 plus sales tax less deductable, no rate hike. They were concerned about all the eletricals in the car long term.
So sorry to hear this, Glenn. Hopefully, this won't delay your plans for the continued upgrades you have planned. Heck, now you can make her as fast as she is beautiful.
3rd and probably most important is that if even one rod is bent the dealer will install a NEW crate motor rather then rebuild because when you get right down to it it is cheaper for GM and also they have less of a chance of having to fix it again.
Not true. When I hydrolocked my C3, it was still under the original factory warranty. The GM district rep would only authorize the replacement of the one bent connecting rod in the # 7 cylinder. Nothing more.
That was then and this is now. Also were dealing with an LS1
How "bout a philosophical spin? Maybe you would have gotten into a serious highway accident had this not happened, something that could have cost you more than an engine.....your life. When I think about some of the things I"ve done with the car, I have to believe God protects Corvette people.
Sorry to hear the bad news. If you had this same setup I certainly can see a hydrolocking situation, the air diverter "shoveled" the water straight to your intake. I'm not one for sneaking around the bushes but you wouldn't want an insurance adjuster seeing that.
When the insurance gets you a motor, it's usually carries a 90 or 180 day warranty. If you have an extended warranty on the car, the requirement was that it had at least a year warranty to not void the GMPP. In my case (not a Vette) that caused the insurance to total the car. Double check your warranties.

When I heard of the hydrolock problems a few years ago, I got rid of the bottom breather on our 2000. I replaced the radiator duct and put on a Blackwing. The minor hp increase from a bottom breather is just not worth the risk in mind, but to each his own.

You're still dealing with the GM factory district rep when it comes to what repairs they will authorize and what repairs they will not authorize. What difference does it make what type of engine you're taking about when you've injested water and you're trying to get it repaired under insurance or the warranty?

If it was a warranty repair then GM can step in. In this case, its a insurance claim so the insurance company will may the call. Gm is not paying the bill. Most likely (50/50 chance) they will write the est. for a used motor with about the same miles. However the owner can pay the difference and get any type of motor he wants.
I don't think he's mentally challenged - but I think you need a lesson in manners. Nothing like kicking a guy when he's down.
Sorry for your troubles, Glen. Good luck with the repairs.
See mwagne16 - it isn't that hard to same something supportive, or say nothing.
When I see someone fall, I help them up. When a drunk stumbles to the ground in a bar, I just shake my head. Where do you draw the line? Maybe when the lapse of judgement results in someone breaking their Vette into a child. Go support them next.

I guess that's where you and I are different. When I see someone fall, I too, will help them up. When someone here makes an error in judgement that he admitted - he clearly stated that he encountered UNEXPECTED deep water - I don't rub his face into it and call him mentally challenged.
I offered him luck with the repairs - you on the other hand called him mentally challenged. I'm not supporting anyone other than to wish them luck. Did you happen to notice that nearly all if not all except you wished him luck and offered advice?
I guess most everyone here is supportive except for the small minority that make themselves feel better and smarter by offering nothing other than name calling and finger wagging.
So enjoy your self perceived superior intelligence - hopefully alone in the corner. Have a great evening.

So where do you get off placing personal judgement against me? You didn't consider (or didn't believe) the facts I stated in the initial post, let alone the fact that you have no personal knowledge of the location . . .
I hit the water as I entered the westbound on-ramp to Hwy 820 at the intersection of Blue Mound Road and Hwy 820 (near the "J" in Jim Wright Freeway). Here's a map. It's not like I was off the beaten path.
Again, I didn't know it until I saw the splash and heard the problem. As I waited for the tow truck, I watched the cycle repeat itself over and over. The 1st car each time hit the water full bore accelerating, every car after them slowed down and tried to go right or left. The 1st car in each cycle of cars through the path never saw the deep water.
