Best Oil

From a 2000 owners manual
"You should look for this on the oil container, and
use only those oils that are identified as meeting GM
Standard 4718M and have the starburst symbol on the
front of the oil container.
Your vehicle’s engine is filled at the factory with a
Mobil 1 synthetic oil, which meets all requirements
for your vehicle.
Substitute Engine Oil: When adding oil to maintain
engine oil level, oil meeting GM Standard GM4718M
may not be available. You can add substitute oil
designated SAE 5W-30 with the starburst symbol at all
temperatures. If temperatures are above 0F (-18C),
you may substitute SAE 10W-30 with the starburst
symbol. Substitute oil not meeting GM Standard
GM4718M should not be used for an oil change."
The manual also has a picture of the oil fill cap with the Mobil 1 on it.
So you can go both directions in the thread. Use only Mobil 1 or use oil that meets GM 4718M
Anyone concerned with warranty, just document that the oil changes were done at proper intervals and the oil used met the standard. Perhaps you may be in a better position if you stay with the factory fill.
With that said - Wally World right now has Mobil 1 5-30 for $17.78 for 5 quarts. The oil meets GM4718M. And this is what I use.

Read the print on the picture. The last bold statement reads like Mobil 1 doesn't meet the GM spec.?
So, not to confuse the issue................... GM used Mobil 1 to fill at the factory. That's all!!! Then they say, "use only those oils that are identified as meeting GM Standard 4718M and have the starburst symbol on the front of the oil container", as your quote from above.

For those that are more comfortable sticking with a 5w30, I'd recommend:
AMSOIL SAE Synthetic 5w30
or in hot weather areas (always above 0F)
AMSOIL SAE Synthetic 10w30

Why???? It's just as "thick" at 200 degrees as a 10w-30 oil and it's many times "thicker" at, say, 50 degrees startup than it will be at 200 degrees. In fact the 0w will give you better start-up lubrication than a 10w-30 oil will because it pumps through the engine quicker.

Those of you who are saying that Mobil 1 isn't a fully synthetic oil anymore, where do you get that idea? According to their web site, it still is.

Show me something that says it isn't anymore and I'll believe you. Otherwise, get your facts straight before posting.

Folks, for street driving the difference between Mobil 1 and anything else is zero, zip. It doesn't matter.
I road race my car weekly which puts considerably more stress on the engine. A day at the track involves 5-20 min sessions running the engine between 3,500 and 6,000 rpm on a track surface that's often over 105 degrees.
Guess what 75%+ of the racers are using? Mobile 1.

I use Mobil1, works for me. I would use Royal Purple too but Mobil is so easy to get (just throw it in the Fiances shopping cart at Wally World )

OK. What's the difference between GM4718M and GM6094M? 6094 can be used in LS1 engines, but not LS2 engines?
