Have "someone" ask you who owns the car that just cut them off in traffic.Run the plate they gave you and find out it must be a wrong plate number because it didn't match the description they gave you. I'm former LEO too. Think man!!!

Someone already mentioned that you might be disappointed if/when you finally catch up to your old Corvette. I can agree because it happened to me. Never again will I want to see one of my previous Corvettes.

I saw my '88 yellow convertible two years after I sold it. In fact, I made a special trip to look at it. Won't do that again! It was in mint condition when I let it go, a first-place winner in all judged Corvette shows for quite some time. What I saw two years later was a disgrace! Paint was full of dings and scratches, chrome wheels totally corroded, weatherstripping gouged, the back window impossible to see out of, the top was ripped, the interior was all slicked up with some sort of greasy Armor-All type of product. Absolutely disgusting!! What a shame after only two years. You might want to re-think your goal!

I do agree with the other posts that warn you of what you might find when you do track down your former VETTE.
I did that with the motorcycle I traded for my first VETTE. Couldn't beliveve the difference. When I traded, the bike was literally better than new, with all the accessories I had on it. When I saw it (only 2 years later) it looked like crap. I was shocked. If the bike was in that shape when I had it, I'd never gotten into the Corvette family.
Some people don't take as much pride in what they have compaired to others.

Well, I have had several people both on and off the forum give me similar advice. Another thing that comes to mind, is now that the 99FRC is up North in snow country, what kind of condition will the under carriage be in? Logic tells me that the most reasonable course of action would be to take the advice that many have given me and find another nice Vette locally, but there is still a part of me that at the very least wants to know what condition it is in.

Well, I had been following this thread for a while now, and now I must object.
Just because it is up in the North country doesn't mean it is any worse condition, and in fact it might be in better condition than Vette driven year round in the South.
Many of us Vette owners up here put them away in the late fall before the first snow fall (and the salt hits the road), and don't get them back out until a thorough washing of the road in the spring. We spend all winter modifing, cleaning and working on our vettes (and other cars).
Because of this reason, our vettes get less miles on them them many other parts of the country (I only put ~4000 miles on my '99 FRC and 273 miles on my '75 Convertible last year).
Now, as to your problem. I am a moderator on a regional Vette site for the Twin Cities. I do know of a couple of '99 NB FRC's up in the Twin Cites area (which is on the border of Wisconsin). If you care to send me more info as to what part of Wisconsin, last 5 digets of the VIN, I will see what I could come up with by putting the "word" out.

Hope you come up with an answer to your quest.

Rich

BTW- My '99 FRC came out of Dallas. I bought it in 2003 with 36,8xx miles on it and it now has 50,3xx. First 4 years = 9,000/year. Second 4 years = 3,500 /year

Another great thread....

I'm going to suggest the opposite of what most have posted here. Go find your car, my friend! The sentimental value she clearly holds for you far outweighs anything else. Even if she is found to be in less than ideal condition, that doesn't mean that you can't fix her back up with some additional $$$ and TLC.

The old saying goes that if you love something you let it go. If it comes back to you (or in this case if you find it again) ... well ... it is a relationship meant to be!

I see both sides of the story, but go get it. You don't want to spend the rest of you life with a what if. No matter how bad it might look, wait till you sit in it again and the memories come back. Bring it back home

Sorry, it was not my intention to ruffle any feathers with my comment about the states up North, but you must admit that the concern is real if someone does not take as good of care of their Vette as you do. I figured that most Vette owners would, but since I do not know the current owner, well.............. At any rate thank you for your post and your kind offer to help. As soon as I arrive home I will PM you the information that I have. Keith

Thank you for your support. I do plan to hopefully make contact with the current owner in the not to distant future. He may not wish to respond, or he may not wish to sell, or the 99 may not be in acceptable condition. On the other hand maybe he does and maybe the 99 is in acceptable condition, or can be made so. Either way I must try find out.

Can't blame you for that. But really, I'd look for a Vette in your area and not beat yourself up over the former ride. Not that a follow up on your former Vette wouldn't be interesting. The former owner of my '75 and I talk/meet on different occasions and he's glad that his former Vette has a good home with an owner that cares as much about the car as he did.
