I tracked down one of my fathers old Vette's in 06 and bought it back earlier this year!! The car was a few miles from a weekend home I purchased. The car was in a 20 year suspended time capsule. The owner had many cars and Corvettes and never really used the car. He did a nice job retaining its survivor status.
You could also run a free ad in the WI sections of craigslist. And if you have a friend in your local police department, they might consider running the VIN for you.
I underestand why you'd like to find your old car and possible buy it back some day -- I wish I could have kept all four of my previous Vettes. Happy hunting!!
You are correct, the owner may very well not want to sell, in which case I will have to switch to plan b. In response to your question about Nassau Blue........ well what can I say........ I guess we are both just sick puppies.
So if the owner does not want to sell now you leave him/her your contact info for the first chance when the owner may want to part with it, and to you for not abusing any powers you may have as a LEO and doing it the old fashioned way good detective work
And BTW a great little story of hope and persistance ( i like TV detective shows)
Track it down little grass hopper. Yes, you might get disappointed when and if you find the car, but then again, what if still looks like it's in good shape? You'll never have to wonder "what if?". The car holds some type of meaning, right? Don't let displacement and the comments of other come in between what makes you happy!
Sounds like you need to start a project involving some "historical research" on 99 Corvettes.
That's one of the 13 reasons isn't it?
Worked for me in MO.
Rick
Well the main problem is when you try to make contact with the current owner useing the information from M.V.D. Contacting him to ask him if he wants to sell is not a valid reason.

Thank you very much. I plan on writing him a letter with my request and even if he does not wish to sell now, as you stated he will have my information if he should change his mind.

OK, here is the latest news. My ex 99 Hardtop has been located. Now what remains is for me to compose a letter and mail it to the current owner. I plan to send it to him after the holidays to minimize the chance of lost or misdirected holiday mail. I thought about sending a letter to him certified return receipt, but that tends to worry some people when they receive such letters. So what do you all think would be better, regular first class mail or certified return receipt?

I think regular mail would be the route I would go...maybe include your email address, some old pics of the car if you have some and perhaps even a printout of this thread. You could even send with a Christmas card. Best of luck to you for a happy ending.
Now what? Will u be able to buy it back..Do u want too?
I still have to contact the original owner and find out what kind of condition it is in, does he wish to sell, and if he does at what price. At least I now know who to contact and where.
