The only thing, I personally myself think GM could of done better with the C5's was the back end. The "big butt", I wish I could have look more like the C6. I will hand GM credit in that they definitely took the criticism from the C5'ers and got the back end of the C6 car just right. Other then that, love my C5.
I personally think that GM got the back of the C5 just right, in fact perfect. I think that most C5 owners will agree that the rear of the C5 looks awesome and is probably the best looking of all of the Corvette generation back ends primarily because of its width. I think that the C5 is perfect from any angle. Although I have finally warmed up to the looks of the C6 but I still think that the back of the C6 looks chopped off and stubby and much too narrow except for the Z06 and ZR1 which are nice and wide. I still prefer pop-ups as well.
I agree that the C5 will never look outdated and is IMO the best looking generation so far....although I wouldn't pass on an '09 Cyber Grey or Black Z06 with the new style Z wheels in Comp Grey, mainly for the 427, because my '99 Black Coupe still looks best to me.

Well to each their own, I voiced my opinion and you did yours as well. I was more mentioning it as the c5's nickname is "big butt" and that was adopted over time from vette owners. Plus GM did change it all around for the C6 from all the customer critiques who bought the C5. Again to each their own. Either way....a great looking car that in no way will ever look "dated".
There still are more C5's on the road than C6's, so exposure to the new ones has not quite created the "dated" effect yet for the C5. But it will happen, just like it did for the C4. I remember when the C4 came out with the hood that lifted off the front tires, it was beautiful, and still is. Still dated though. I will stick with my C5 because a Corvette is a once in a lifetime purchase for me. But if I ever win the lottery.....
I guess your metrosexual "friends" drive G37, Lexus, Honda, (what a joke), 350Z and other "pop culture", "I'm in style dude", cars, (while slipping their Star Bucks coffee, listening to the latest rap music and text messaging you), ricer rides that don't have any history or class like our C5 vettes possess. How old are your friends? Sound like a bunch of wannabes who are totally jealous of your vette. I'd dump those posers and get some real friends! Dated? Please, your friends seem completely superficial judging the C5 in this way without even considering it's performance capabilities and heritage! I bet your C5 is the best and fastest of the group, sour grapes if your ask me.
About the ability to purchase a C6 Z06, what-up? Go buy one tomorrow dude! I love mine!
I was looking for someone before me to come up with the obvious answer, and here it is.....
Get new friends.....
The C5 is classic and the new "world-class" version of an American Icon.
I see great C6's and am tempted, but they are not as smoothly styled nor as low and lean as the C5. Narrower and higher....still don't like the interior...while there are some styling areas I like well on the C6, I still just can't warm up to it.
I'm not basing this on actual measurements for those of you with measuring tapes....just my gut impression.
People tell me I have a "gorgeous" car....what more can one ask?
I for one think the c-5s offer a tremendous bargain. But I also have to say that the c-6s still have not fully grown of me. I still find the rear ugly and incomplete in design.
Looking at the side profile of my convertible c-5, I can’t help but notice what a beautiful ecstatic design these cars are. If it wasn’t for the fact that so many were sold, their beautiful lines would be priceless. With each line and the way the body flows from the front to the rear, in my opinion it is just as beautiful as a Ferrari. Some may criticize the huge rear compared to the new c-6’s, however the design gives it a complete look. Have any of you ever noticed the subtle design characteristics of the midyears? From the slight creases on the deck lid and the flow from the front fenders to the rear hump, 1963-67 is evident. Even that useless hold on bar in the passenger bay is reminiscent of a midyear design. I truly believe these c-5’s will go down as one of the most beautiful designs in car history. To me they represent the modern mid-year. And we all know what happened from 1968 on. Our c-5’s? Absolutely gorgeous!
If you can get one, now might be the time to find a great bargain. Dated? No! Bargain? Yes!
