How long does this mid life crisis thing last anyway? I bought my first Corvette at 19 and 43 years later Im still a vette man. Good Lord,
Does this mean Im still 19 or having a really long crisis? My wife of 35 years says I act like a child. I need a beer..... Dave
Anyone else deal with idiots like this or are these guys just the idiots my luck brings my way? LOL
For owning a performance car for the last 6 years and being a SCCA member for just as long I can not say this has ever happened to me. Although I try not to hang around with the type of person/crowd you mentioned. At least you offered to run him at the strip instead of on the street.
They say that 50 is the new 30.. so here is my 2 cents worth. First, drive the Vette for what it is, a great driving experience. Next, as tempers go up, IQ drops down... We all see this type of tude occasionally. There are bigger hills to die on!
Next, racing should be done on the track or strip. Hang in there!
Just tell the punks what you said in your CF biography about why you bought the Vette -- that should end the trash talk.
As for the mid-life crisis aspect, I got my first new (special order) Vette at 20, and at 66 enjoy a C5 -- my 5th Vette. Mine has been "whole life crisis" of neat performance cars, but the Vette remains "best bang for the buck."
I think Corvette's became un-cool sometime in the 80's, probably when Barbie got one...
Sadly the Corvette is the mid-life crisis mobile for most of middle-aged white conservative America.
Porsche's owners also get this, so do Harley-Davidson owners...
It's not like those other cars don't have their own stereotypes to deal with.
::cough:: "Rice-boy!"
So just ignore the troll-baiting tactics and be happy with you car.
I don't ever wonder if I can beat the other car. I aleady know I can!!!!! Just smile and walk away. I also hit the purge while I am driving away just for effect Oh yeah and I am 31 and I turn my own wrenches.
I'm 58 years old, retired mechanic, drag racer,built/had too many hot/very fast street cars, got my first and only (so far) vette in 03 (Z/06) thought I knew cars/car people, but I was really surprised at the attitude that some people have just because you have a vette, suddenly I'm not Kenny anymore now just because I have a vette I'm transformed into some kind of dick, some people have such an attitude in almost drips off them. This one woman I asked what the prob. was she countered that that I was wasteing the plantet by driving that gas guzzler I showed her the DIC (28 MPG) same as her toyota.but fear not I'm sure you've gotten some compliments which kin d of surprised me also as while the vette is certainly a most bitchen' car it's still just a new car that anybody could buy, it's not a hemi Roadrunner,Tri power GTO ect.But what makes up for the cynical/haters are the little kids they are attracted to vettes like moths to a light at a car show this past summer a group of little kids walked past some serious iron and straight to the vette, little kids are pure, unspolied, out of the mouths of babes they say comes the truth. Remember when you get something cool/exclusive some people will be happy for you, some jealous and hate you for it
I am not sure I would spend any effort defending America's only true sports car---one that challenges the very best F-cars and Astons and everything in between---to those who spend good money souping up econo boxes with NOS and coffee can mufflers.
Each to his own, but I doubt that crowd has any since of history or provenance. The "Fast and Furious" goofball imitators are more often a menace than not. Don't waste your breath.
Hang out with these guys and you'll get into trouble.....besides, they're Canadian..........have a Molson and a donut.
Hey!!! Hahaha
Like everyone said before, don't get too into it. I know from experience that getting heated over repetitive subjects like this is nothing you should be doing. Have a nic relaxing cup of coffee.....
My question is....
Why would you even be around a group like that? Did you have something to prove to them? I bought my Vette because I wanted one for years, I don't care if the Evo or the Vette is faster, If someone comes up to me and asks to race that shows there age and all I do is smile and drive away or say no Thanks.
Do the right thing.

I enjoy the great advice appearing in this forum regarding the C5 and normally ignore the ego-driven stuff, but this posting caused me to think about the comment suggesting the Corvette as a phallic substitute in lieu of possion of a real one.
That comment merits (?) a simple response.
The only person my C5 (or its substitute) has to satisfy is ME. If others have trouble with that they may be jealous of one or both of my possessions, both of which are 0 to 60 veterans.
