I'm 25, got my Corvette when I was 24. Not one person looked down on me for getting one. They actually thought I was/am much more well off than I am. Fact of the matter is, I just saved money and budgeted accordingly. I also do without stuff that some people have.
Anywho, those types of people are in every crowd. Imports, euros, domestics and many of them are in the Corvette crowd. Thinking "their" car is the best vehicle on the planet blah blah blah. Thing is every car has a stereotype. When I had my Supra the stereotype was that I had the fastest car on the planet. I got FAR more attention in that car than I do from the Corvette. Thing is with the younger crowd, they think you cannot afford a Corvette unless you have a trust fund.
Maybe you should've explained further what you meant so he didn't take it as an offense. Where I live there is an appreciation for all things fast, but it is fun to poke fun sometimes.

Similar situation here.
I bought the car at 27 and am now 28. When I drove my Yukon to work, etc nobody looked twice.
When I bought the Z06 back in August, people’s heads started turning. People that I have known for years started asking questions... How much money do I make and the like.
My fiancé’s friends started asking her what I did for a living. They had no interest in who I was and what I did before hand. I could care less, but that tells you how people perceive/judge people by what they drive. Smucks.
I am very happy that I bought it from a private seller. I also saved money and paid cash. I did not want any payments.
I bought the car AFTER I bought my first home. So, I did well and am proud of it.
Do I brag about how I did it? Absolutely not!
I am still the same guy. Now, I am the same guy with a big smile on my face when driving the Vette.
I can't say at all that the stereotype of a Corvette owner is young, etc.. most of the Corvettes I see are driven by middle age and older people. Let's face it, you get much past the 20s and most of us are trying to make ends meet keeping shoes on the kid's feet, paying for a house, etc... That having been said, I bought my first Corvette new in 1975, so have been around a while. Like others have said, most of the negative comments are from jealous people, and is about the same with the Harley.
So I got in to a heated discussion with a few folks yesterday who are fans of the EVO, DSM thing. Don't get me wrong, I've had a GST and a GSX.. both fun cars. one liked to break a lot but that's not important now.
So we are chatting and I called out (just asked the guy if he wanted to run me) this guy who has a built up EVO. Next thing I know, I'm a cocky vette driver in a mid life crisis and I have a corvette to compensate for a small *****. All because I asked this guy to race me. I'm 23 years old and I guess **** gets under my skin more easily than the older folks but that argument is really annoying and old. Every time I get in to a discussion with someone and it becomes heated (involving cars), it seems that is everyone's defense... to come up with the corvette stereotypes.
No one likes to admit that an american made car can race a modified japanese car and win... what the hell is happening
Anyone else deal with idiots like this or are these guys just the idiots my luck brings my way? LOL
They were just scared and that was the easiest way to get out of the race!
