So I got in to a heated discussion with a few folks yesterday who are fans of the EVO, DSM thing. Don't get me wrong, I've had a GST and a GSX.. both fun cars. one liked to break a lot but that's not important now.
So we are chatting and I called out (just asked the guy if he wanted to run me) this guy who has a built up EVO. Next thing I know, I'm a cocky vette driver in a mid life crisis and I have a corvette to compensate for a small *****. All because I asked this guy to race me. I'm 23 years old and I guess **** gets under my skin more easily than the older folks but that argument is really annoying and old. Every time I get in to a discussion with someone and it becomes heated (involving cars), it seems that is everyone's defense... to come up with the corvette stereotypes.
No one likes to admit that an american made car can race a modified japanese car and win... what the hell is happening
Anyone else deal with idiots like this or are these guys just the idiots my luck brings my way? LOL

I suggest you start hanging out with real car guys and gals - those arguments become friendly discussions - otherwise known as "bench racing" (I guess that's an old term - but then again, I'm old). Real car guys and gals appreciate anything that sucks air and burns fuel.
One last piece of advice - take your challenges to the track, whether it be drag strip or road course, street racing is irresponsible and dangerous. (I guess my old age is showing again).
There is a difference between owners and enthusiasts. Their attitudes are a reflection of the difference.
An owner isn't necessarily an enthusiast. An enthusiast isn't necessarily an owner, but more than likely is a genuine "car guy" of all makes and models.
If you read some of the comments made in this forum on various topics, you might recognize the reason why some people think Corvette owners are snooty (or other common stereotype)...
I suppose you're right. I was talking to the guy about a run at the track. I made it clear that I didn't even think I would win as he has a very respectable set up. I just wanted to see how I stood up against an AWD car putting down over 600hp to the wheels.
I wasn't disrespectful to the guy at all who I was talking to, the guys that swing his nuts were the ones being the douches. I suppose you have those guys in all realms of the car scene. I can appreciate any car that someone has put their time in to make it their own. No matter what it is.

I'm 58 years old, retired mechanic, drag racer,built/had too many hot/very fast street cars, got my first and only (so far) vette in 03 (Z/06) thought I knew cars/car people, but I was really surprised at the attitude that some people have just because you have a vette, suddenly I'm not Kenny anymore now just because I have a vette I'm transformed into some kind of dick, some people have such an attitude in almost drips off them. This one woman I asked what the prob. was she countered that that I was wasteing the plantet by driving that gas guzzler I showed her the DIC (28 MPG) same as her toyota.but fear not I'm sure you've gotten some compliments which kin d of surprised me also as while the vette is certainly a most bitchen' car it's still just a new car that anybody could buy, it's not a hemi Roadrunner,Tri power GTO ect.But what makes up for the cynical/haters are the little kids they are attracted to vettes like moths to a light at a car show this past summer a group of little kids walked past some serious iron and straight to the vette, little kids are pure, unspolied, out of the mouths of babes they say comes the truth. Remember when you get something cool/exclusive some people will be happy for you, some jealous and hate you for it
I think Corvette's became un-cool sometime in the 80's, probably when Barbie got one...
Sadly the Corvette is the mid-life crisis mobile for most of middle-aged white conservative America.
Porsche's owners also get this, so do Harley-Davidson owners...
It's not like those other cars don't have their own stereotypes to deal with.

So just ignore the troll-baiting tactics and be happy with you car.

My question is....
Why would you even be around a group like that? Did you have something to prove to them? I bought my Vette because I wanted one for years, I don't care if the Evo or the Vette is faster, If someone comes up to me and asks to race that shows there age and all I do is smile and drive away or say no Thanks.
Do the right thing.

As i said before i wanted to see how my car would match up against a 600+hp AWD vehicle. I can't help if his douche bag friends were with him. I don't have a chip on my shoulder to prove anything to anyone. I don't have a 550+hp car to just cruise around town with... I'm a man win or lose.. no excuses. I appreciate fast cars, no matter who it's made by or who built it up. I'm pretty sure every one wonders at some point "hey, could my car beat (enter car here)".. idk maybe that's the kid in me, or maybe I just like racing.. maybe both.
LOL yeah, I'm a few years before my mid-life crisis, i hope!

I bought my first Corvette at 21 yrs old!!! My first Harley at 23 yrs old!!!! I hope this is not a mid life crisis......
oh well I love both my vehicles!! No matter what others think.. There is always that person that wants to argue who/what is best... I say let them go at it, while they at talking I will enjoy driving my Vette/Harley!!! If they want to race they can meet me at the track, I am not scared to lose. Its all fun and games to me!!!
I get people all the time looking at me and thinking im a little rich boy because i have a Vette at 20, but what they dont know is that ive been saving since i was 16 when i drove my fathers vette, so people talk the talk but in the end i let it go in one ear and out another.
I hear ya. I'm 26, only bought my c5 at 25. I'm not a huge vet fan, I just liked having a nice, clean ride with a manual, some power, and removable top. I have some friends of friends with 1st gen supras that are 400+hp. The other day we were hanging out and my friend volunteered me to race him, not that I was going to since the car is in storage for the winter. We were at a diner and the kid was pretty calm, so he didn't start calling me names, but after about a half hour of shooting the ****, the kid looked at me and said "man, you know a lot about cars, more than I would have expected for someone that owns a corvette." I think he said this after I was explaining to him why I was using propane instead of race gas on my supercharged z26 that I used to have.
I could tell he was a pretty car smart kid, so I just told him, "there's idots that own every type of car out there, try not to judge a driver by his car before you talk to him."
I wouldn't say something quite like he said to someone's face, but I will agree that there are quite few people that own fast cars like corvettes that think they know cars because they own one. We aren't all THAT guy though
