This stereotype has really soured my ownership experience even though I don't get it that much. If it wasn't for the fact that I race the car and dont really care what people think I'd sell it. But what are your choices?
Mustang, you're a punk street racer.
Camaro/Z28/TransAM, you're a mullet head and 1980's calling.
Import, you're a punk ricer with a loud fart can exhaust.
It's a loose loose all the way around so to hell with it; ask them what track they want to meet you at.
My fiance teases me about how Corvette's have the stereotype of belonging to older/balding men with "wife's that bitch at them when they get home from work".
So, they take the Corvette's out for drives to get away from the bitchy wife's and kids.
Damn I live my fiance.
... I told her it was part of my dream to own a home and a Vette before turning 30. I did just that.
She always tells me how she loves walking out of the house, store, etc towards the car and gawking at it.
EDIT: I forgot to mention I still have my '88 IROC Convertible.
One of life's certainties is that there's always a car out there thats faster than mine. Who knows what mods have been done to the other guys motor and how many $$ have been spent
Bottom line for me is I'm happy with my car and I'm even happier to walk away from discussions like that one.
As an aside, we once flew Damon Hill the former F1 World Champion in one of our Tornado fighters. He joked that he could take us 0 to 100 but even he had to admit the Tornado was quicker from 400 to 600. See what I mean?
There is a difference between owners and enthusiasts. Their attitudes are a reflection of the difference.
An owner isn't necessarily an enthusiast. An enthusiast isn't necessarily an owner, but more than likely is a genuine "car guy" of all makes and models.
If you read some of the comments made in this forum on various topics, you might recognize the reason why some people think Corvette owners are snooty (or other common stereotype)...
im 24, raced a kid with a SRT-4 last year... At a track ... and hand to god this kid sold his car and went and bought a 3rd gen RX-7 to beat me... he since blew up the motor and my buddie is trying to get the car to drop a LS1 in it.... Moral of the Story... Import kids are stupid... I only run on the track now and street racing is a rush but not worth the hassle or in my case some stupid kid "meaning probably under 18" asking everybody in town that knows me for my number so he can call and run his mouth because he has something to prove to the local vette guy...
To my mind the agression and "name calling" is something better left when a person leaves highschool. I don't give one rip what they may
say, I'm in a vette because I want to be and they are in whatever because they want to be.
EVO's and the rest are nice cars with loyal followings just as vetts, so
I'll leave it at that, smile and get in my car for a ride.
took me 50 years to own a vette always wanted one but braces school and a ton of stuff for my 3 kids kept me from it so anybody can say what they want its mine and I love the car

I for one wish that more of our youth would buy more of our American cars, even if it is not our beloved Vette. GOOD FOR YOU AND I FOR ONE AM GLAD YOU BOUGHT AMERICAN!!!
This is what is wrong with America, we get into arguements or discussions about America not building cars that are as good as the foreign ones. That is B.S. in my book. Every manufacturer out there makes good vehicles and bad ones depending on your needs. Another arguement is that they are not as stylish, our as appealing to our youth. Well then we neeed to change that. Ever since the movie Fast and the Furious our young people think that the foreign cars are so great. We are loosing the battle.
BTW, I am only 37, but see why the US is loosing the car wars. Our auto manufacturers/CEO's think that only the older generation can afford new cars. That is no longer the case as when I was young. I see more young people spending their money on new cars then ever and again modifying them with aftermarket parts in which we should again concentrate on more to gain more of the market. Just my $.02.
BTW once these people you were arguing with get to be in their 40's they will wish they had your Vette. Trust me.
i love my car and i love racing it too, i suppose it just starts some **** sometimes... not on my own accord however... at least not this time.
If it's a crime to want to see how my car matches up against someone else's at the track, well I'm guilty LOL
that being said, I'll be moving along now... i suppose i will thank those who chimed in. i think everything that needed to be said, and more, has been covered.
