For what it's worth I paid 25.5k a few years ago for one with 43k miles.
Lots of people wouldn't pay 24, but for THAT color it becomes possible.
see, that's what i've been thinking. Sorta been lurking on here for several months and until then i had never seen a white z06. Thus starting my search for a great shape, low mileage, STOCK Speedway White.
FOUND IT
so it looks like i'm gonna be sticking around too.
Damn.....I am jealous now. Like I said the only way I would buy an 01 is if it was speedway white. And with low miles for only $21k that is a steal. Now get to modding......I have $7k+ into mine and I have only had it for 2 weeks lol. Like I said I am truely jealous of the deal you got on my favorite color and favorite corvette. Badass and you better post some pics asap.
Why are some of you guys so fixated on HP? I have no intention of drag racing. It is a very sharp torch red Z with low miles and is plenty fast. Get over it.
For me it was a combination of the 405HP and a HUD.
I love the HUD so that would rule out an 01 for me,
unless I wanted to go to the trouble of installing one.
Some '01's had oil consumption issues, but not all. I have heard the later produced '01's didn't. Mine was fixed, but it wasn't that bad. It burned maybe a quart in 3k miles. Just make sure when you get your oil changed that you have a full level before doing an oil consumption evaluation. Some places don't put the extra 1/2 quart in.
YES! EXACTLY!! That is the oil consumption problem. As I've told these inter-net reading kids before on here. For what ever reason the 2001's hold a little more oil, you can go anywhere & get the oil/filter change done, check it and it's full, drive home check it again & it will be 1/2 to 3/4 qt low. You top it off and your good till your 3,000 interval. Not only that the 2001's are quicker than the rest by a small margin......known as....I just beat your sorry ***.....again! And don't you have 20 more hp?
My 2001 coupe was a later model and I never had an oil issue. This Z is in the 29000 production range and has never used oil either. At this point it is not an issue with me.
Good choice I also have an 01 and love it, as far as oil consumption problems or underpowered, I have ridden in both and driven both, not a noticeable difference.I would suggest if you plan on aggresive driving open the hood and check the oil. Hell I check the oil in my lawnmower before I mow and I dont mow agressively.

100% agree.
I've got a sharp red '01 with chromed factory wheels.... love that car... it's perfection on wheels.
Here's a sneek peak of the fully polished engine/twin turbo project just started this weekend. The power steering rez will be relocated, as well all wiring minimized, coil packs gone from sight, heads removed, block-EVERYTHING polished. MORE details than I could write about(see my sig/avatar to get an idea)
Do you think I give ONE RAT'S AZZ about factory '02+ hp ratings?

Reason: Because I can.
As someone who is going to be in the market in the next few months, this thread has really changed my perspective. I was looking solely for an 02+ Z06, just because of the horsepower rating. But when you really really think about it, 20HP is no big deal, especially when saving a few $K is in order. I think I might consider taking advantage of everyone's negative views on the '01...which in turn lowers the market value.... which in turn will save some money. As far as oil consumption, hell.... I owned an RX8 for two years. The last thing that worries me is oil consumption.
However I do see some people's point in the fact that if you are finding 02's for the same price as 01's, why not buy the '02?
I love how some of the guys in here saying they cant notice a difference with the 20hp more 02 Z06 are the same guys who post up and say they notice a seat of the pants difference from a CAI or a catback. Because its a lot easier to notice 2hp then it is to notice 20hp lol. Get whichever car you want. I would rather have a newer car for the same price which will also be easier to sell later on then the 01 just because of all the 01 haters. Plus is comes with an extra 20hp and HUD. If you plan on doing heads and cam then no biggie but for someone looking for bolt ons only 02+ are great.
I Just bought a Z june 30th and I test drove the 01 and the 03.. felt the same ,( and i got on it) Only difrence was of course the HUD and the 03 was just a tad louder . both stock!! 03 had 40k more miles than the 01 and the 01 had the mod red interior. Ended up buying the 2001 Z with 13K miles on the clock for 18K..... and saved me 4k
And I hightly doubt Im ever gonna put the 385hp to use on any Dallas/ Ftw street... and I'll never hit up the track or drag strip.
I love this car , and I love the deal I got it at!!
Goodtimes!

Yours is black? The event last Sat. mine was the other black Z
Not the brightest one are you. The hp difference is still going to be 20hp unless you change out the cam. If the difference in the hp is from a different cam then changing exhaust and intake on both cars will not change that. I love how people get bitter because you happen to be talking about the year car they own. Just like the guys with the early build 07 Z06s are having problems with their lifters breaking and blowing engines.
The 01s did have oil consumption problems. Do a search on the forum. This isnt some made up story just to bring down the 01 Z06 owners.
If you do head and cam swap on both cars then there should in theory be no 20hp difference. if that is the case if I had an 02 then my z could be making 870FWHP instead of 850FWHP like I have now!! Dang it. Dude I say if you like the car and it is in good shape with that low of miles then you made a good decision. You may not find a newer one in half as good as shape! But who cares if it is falling apart as long as you get the "20 more HP"

A few weeks back I had a bone stock 01 put down 357 SAE rwhp on the dynojet 224 that I tune on. I have seen 02-04 cars do less! That car, with a driver not running it out hard went 12.60 @ 116 MPH with a rough 2.2 60-foot on hard radials. I am well aware of the differences in the engines, but this is the real world. What I am getting at is that the difference in the real world power output is negligible.
Another ? for you all. Did ALL of the 01s have an oil problem or just the earlier models? The vin# is 29765 which is pretty high.
If I recall wasn't the problem fixed?
Photoguy, you did not read my earlier post with the history of the on oil consumption issues. Be educated BEFORE you buy. Don't just listen to the hype , myths or misinformation. Answer; NO , not all, not even a small percentage had anymore oil consumption than other LS6 had if you count the variables but do your homework!!
Read the recall I've linked in the earlier post , here it is again , but remember the story is much , much deeperhttp://www.rjsmith.com/gm-894549.html
This '01 was produced on April 30th 2001* which also means that the engine has the newer designed pistons (cold start piston slap issue) which was on the line with the LS6 in mid -April. .......* the production time line according to the VIN is an approx. date

Buy what makes you happy. 'nuf said.
Hell yeah. The HUD rocks! The gauges look sick on the Vette, but the HUD rocks socks. I didn't think I'd use it that much, but now I don't think I could live without it.
