Thats the great thing about owning a Corvette in UK. There are so few Corvettes that every sighting is an event. C1 through C6; every Vette is special. The UK Nationals is a sight to behold
Hey guys.. Maybe some don't like the C4, But it is still a Vette, I have nothing against C4s at all, I am embarrassed at some of your replies and are making the C5 guys look bad.
You only say that because you know you have the "best looking C-5 on the planet earth"! [Pewter with red interior] My 99 is the close second with torch red and tan interior!
I like c-4s too, i owned 7 of them over a 10 year period.
Dave
I love a nice looking C4 . Like I said before , I owned an 84 red/tan for 15 years and loved it . If I hAd more room in my garage , I would get a nice 1970 LT1
Exactly. As more of an outsider to this forum than an insider, it appears that Corvette owners (no matter the generation) are snobish in general. The Porsche guys might be the only group I've stumbled across who are more so.
Most of the ENTHUSIASTS are not snobbish, but share an unbridled passion for the sleek, seductive lines of the Corvette. In our case, the C5. Yes it is just a car. I've never owned a car like this. One that still makes me catch my breath when I look at it. The appreciation, and intense feeling of excitement, as you slip thru the gears, and how it responds to your actions. Yes, for the true enthusiast, they are an obsession. They are not just basic transportation. If I need that, I use my DD.
The enthusiast appreciates ALL generations of Corvettes. Yes, there are some snobs out there. Always will be. I don't have this car, for any other reason, than it's my dream. AS said before, Save the Wave!
DieselDave I get your point about some Corvettes being a bit more valuable down the road. I still look at the generations as being equal with special versions in each group. Having owned a Corvette since 1973 I've seen the changes. I've only owned two, my first a '67 BB convertible, that I still own, and my 99 FRC. Why so long between Vettes? The '99 FRC is the first Vette that really made me want another. I didn't want to trade the '67 and at this stage of my life I was able to keep both. A couple of my buddies have C4s, including a Corvette Challenge car that has been street driven it's whole life. A very cool piece. I love talking Corvette any time, any place, with anybody. Corvettes of all kinds just plain ROCK.
Love all Corvettes. Just some better than others. Am I a snob? Yes, when it comes to hopped up, POS ricers which to me sound like a vacuum cleaner. Just my opinion.
In all my years of owning Corvettes, I have found there are basically two kinds of Corvette owners. There are the Corvette enthusiasts and there are the Corvette owners. The enthusiasts tend to be the people with the older cars and the people who tend to really love and take care of their cars. They tend to believe that all Corvettes are created equal and enjoy them all the same. Then there are the Corvette owners. They tend to purchase the Corvette for the prestige of ownership. Usually know very little about the cars. They tend to buy newer Corvettes and look down on the people who didn’t spend as much money as they did. Just my $.02
The people that look down on the C4.. even the 84, forget the major changes that it brought. The digi-dash.. "atari" dash gave us information that was never available before.... Instant gas mileage, range on tank of gas. Flip a switch and you had more information. Most cars gave you a speedometer, gas guage and several idiot lights. It was the fastest American performance car of its time and has gotten better each year. The C4 was the car I wanted when I got out of school. I definitely love my C5, but still love the C4 too.
No! Most of the time it's all about perception - When I had my C4 I never got snubbed by any other generation!
I kept up the C4 and made it look good just like I did with my C5 now - perhaps they need to get more involved and mod their Vette some more or whatever
If a C6 ever looks down on me then I will spank it like I did the last one!
I don't know why c4 owners would feel that way as in evey new generation of corvette they just keep getting better and faster so c4 owners seems to feel that c5 owners are putting them down and c5 owners feel c6 owners are doing the same so on and so on each generationhas it's moment in history but there is no dought the corvette is the only true American sports car generation to generation
I said sports car not pony car so you mustang and camaro people don't
jump in say no its not all thers are johnnny come latelys no history
to back it.

That's good. My modded C5 with a 427 and Vortech T-Trim will spank any stock C6. And the $ I've put into my C5 would put me well in the price range of many used and a few new C6s. That said, the C6 owners I've met have only compliments for my C5. So far, no need to spank them. They're very friendly and behave real nicely.
I HONESTLY think that it depends on when the owner of the the C5 or C6 started buying Vettes...
A LOT of C6 guys that have never own anything other than a C6 are Corvette snobs and think they're better than C5 or down... Same with C5 guys. If they've only own C5's and C6's, then they often times look down on C4s and down. Personally, I like ALL years of Vettes. I started with a C4. I think the C3 looks the most classic and best. The C2s and C1s command respect. The C5 is my personal choice of driver's car, and the C6 is an evolution to the C5 making is *likely* just as nice if not better than the C5. But I don't look down on any year Corvette. (except the 84 cross fire... LOL.. J/K.)
My 1st Vette was a C4 then I got a C3 for the wife. I bought a C5 in October of last year and did not have room to store all my Vettes in one garage. I chose to sell , which by the way took 5 months, the C4 for 2 reasons, one I was the only that could drive it because of the M6 and two, my wifes C3 is actually worth more today than the C4 will probably ever be worth. The C4 was very good to me and I did not have half the performance issues (gremlins) as my C5 does. I think GM learned alot over the years during the C4 era and that is how we came to what the C5 and C6 are today.

Our first 'vette was a C4. That was two years ago. We recently sold it to our son, who is 21. Hubby and I now have our own C5, but still love the C4. Corvettes are like Lay's potato chips. You can't have just one!
Had a C4. Great car, in fact just before getting my C5 a 40th anniversery edition 1993 with 3200 original miles on the odometer was ready to be picked up to take residence in my man cave!
