I have never driven one but as of right now I would take a c5 Z over it any day. plus the ls1/ls6 are much simpler engines to work on, dont have 4 cams to worry about.
I found one with a lingenfelter kit -500+hp, big brakes, exhaust, shifter, built engine etc. etc. The care mechanically is 100% cosmetically it sucks.... I was toying with the idea, but do enjoy my FRC alot.

I believe that you just answered your own question by saying that this particular ZR1 sucks cosmetically.
There are a couple of reasons to consider the earlier ZR1's in my area:
1. Rob at Gallant's Automotive in Bel Air, MD is a master Corvette technician and has worked on several of them, with great results.
2. In MD the 1990 and soon the '91 qualify as Historic vehicles, thereby making them cheap to title, tag and insure. They are also not subject to MD emission inspections.
No,,I like to drive them too much,,and do my own work!! Even with the standard small block,,,the under hood space is s NIGHTMARE!! Only attraction for me would be as a collectors item,,and as stated I like to drive them!!

I would consider buying one as an addition, but not as a replacement. I would like a '95 with low mileage......double black for me. This is without a doubt a future collectible in my mind. Only made 443 and '95 was the last year of production. But to trade one of my C5's......pass.

What you need to know or remember is that you cannot just simply take it to your local mechanic or dealership. When the ZR1 was to come out, there were only select dealers that sold them and they had sent some of their mechanics to the school on the engine. This is not just a fancy small block Chevy engine; it was designed and built my Lotus Marine. I have a friend that has one and he only knows of a few places in the country that are actually certified to work on them. This is not to say that they are the only ones, but if I had one that needed work, I would sure want to know that the mechanic was well versed in this special engine.
