I now have a little over 500 miles on my new Hankook Ventus V12 evos and would like to report that it has been a pleasure so far...great handling, etc...don't know why I waited so long to get rid of the Goodyear runcraps
$604 shipped ...minus $60 rebate...plus mounting/Hunter roadforce balancing...
...forgot to mention putting on C6Z51 swaybars...wow what a difference in handling so far...now all I need is C6Z06 shocks...ooooooooooboy
ok, now back to the tires. what are you, or any others, doing about preparing for a flat? plug kit w/ compressor, slime or something similar? i just am having a hard time giving up the run-flats [not oem of course].

Dale......ok...I thought about that a long time...I carry a plug kit and small compressor and scissors jack...the difference in ride is worth the small risk of a flat...another thought (learned from ET)...if I get a nail in the tire(usually the cause of a slow leak)...I will just keep putting air in the tire until I can get to a place to fix it

that seems to be the most logical way to go. i have never heard about the 'after' part when using a sealant. what's the main pain in using this stuff, what's the cleanup like when you do pop the tire off to be repaired. and you will have to do that. i never heard if it's a true slime almost like contact cement, or if it's a pain, but cleans up with soap and water or what.

I have never use the canned goop so I can't comment on it...some say its ok and some say its not...
Well the Bilsteins I have are part of the Electronic Selective Ride system(FX3)...the shocks have an actuator on top of the shock...$3200 for new Bilstein shocks and new actuators...I may replace them with standard shocks...after 70,000 miles they are weeping a little so that means they may need replacing sometime in the future...biggest problem I have had is the rear leaf spring splintering over a damn railroad track...replaced it and 5 years later went over the same fkn track and broke the spring again...got a new one on order...
1. FX3, you can send to Bilstein like I did and get them rebuilt and custom valving if you wish for about $100 per shock. You can also get the actuators rebuilt by a co. on the web.
2. Don't go over those tracks ever again! What were you doing 100mph?
I dont worry about flats, that is why i have AAA and towing insurance.
call me a worry-wart, but i've seen [and known] too many tow truck drivers that i wouldn't want touching my car. let alone the guy that you may be trusting to pop your tire off of that beautiful rim. at least with the run-flats i have a little leeway to find a place that i trust. that is the root of my turmoil.

Go with Bilstein sports. The Hankooks get better once you heat cycle them.
All you Hankook owners, please comment on your steering response with these tires.
Not as good as the Verdesteins I had before but after a break-in canyon run last weekend, were I finally got some heat into the Hankooks it is better. The only reason I switched from the Verds was I wanted a 305 in the rear and the widest the Verds go is 295. Hankooks are smoother though. Overall the Verdestien is a better handling tire but I am happy with the Hankooks.
I also want to get away from the GY Run Flats but know one has explained how you get some sort of jack under the Corvette which is already very low to the ground after your tire has no air in it. I think your car will be too low to the ground to get anything under it so you can lift it so you can rotate the tire to plug it.
I also don't like the idea of someone you don't know or trust putting my corvette onto a flatbed truck.

you should be able to find a scissors jack low enough. someone has to make one that is flat enough to start out with.

I found this thread interesting... I will be putting Hankook's on my front and rears this week... I will report back (probably in a separate thread because there is a whole story about that...)

I've always liked knowing I had run flats in case I picked up a nail and had a flat. Of course the GY run flats had their downside of being noisy, rough riding, very expensive etc. There has been a lot of talk about the non run flat tires and Hankook tires in particular. I checked them out and they looked pretty good for the price. Might just go that route myself. Who doesn't want to save $500 plus on tires compared to the run flats.
I was worried about getting a flat with the Hankooks until I gave it some thought about when was the last time I had a flat. Hmmm! It was about 22 years ago behind my shop. I walked out to get in the car and noticed the rear tire was flat. I walked back into my shop, grabed the air hose, pumped the tire back up and drove down the road to the tire shop. They had it fixed in no time and away I went.
Think, I'll get a small compressor, patch kit and scissor jack to carry in the car. Maybe a small piece of 2x6 to drive up onto to help lift the car so that I can get the jack under the car, just in case.
Mind if I ask where you bought them from? That's a great price.

the firstime I went over them at 45mph...years later I didn't realize that they were the same tracks and they hadn't been fixed...so I again went over them at 45mph and bam....anyway if I ever go over them again I will slow down to 5 mph
Thanks for the info...I just may send them off to have them rebuilt
I was worried about getting a flat with the Hankooks until I gave it some thought about when was the last time I had a flat. Hmmm!:
I have not got my Vette yet, but running with no spare could be a PITA if it didn't have run-flats.
The last flat I got was just two years ago, driving over a bridge in rush hour traffic in my 08 Jeep Wrangler. The TPMS warned me, but by the time I was able to safely slow down get over and get off the bridge (because there was no place to safely stop on the bridge) I had destroyed the tire. And this was an over sized off road tire, much less likely to get a puncture than super soft high performance tire.
Get back to us when you have 5000 miles on em. Hopefully, they will feel the same.
By the way, consider Bilstein shocks over the Z06ers. The Bilsteins are rebuildable but even before their first rebuild are likely to outlast any OEM shock.
I have about 9,000 on mine and still love them - in fact I love them even more now than I did when I got them. They work great in the wet and dry and they stick REALLY well. No complaints at all about these tires!
