Got Pulled Over
Was wondering how many of you C5 and C6 owners have a front license plate. Apparently in Illinois it's mandatory. I have a '99 and just got a $75.00 ticket and have to take a picture of installed plate to show judge
OUCH !!
Since '97 (15 years ago),I don't recall seeing even ONE. Lucky me.
Was actually going under the limit and making a turn in lots of traffic at the time.
Plateless in Illinois.

Missouri has the two license plate law - I run the front one on mine - I see no reason to give an LEO another reason to pull me over and issue a ticket.

Colorado has a "two plate" law...been running the C5 for 3 years without it, although I am switching this year...I will run a front plate on both the C5 and the C6, but will remove them for events like shows and cruises, etc. just don't want the hassel.
You got away "Cheap". I got pulled over in Rolling Meadows, IL on Algonquin Road at Route 53. A Cook County cop gave me a $120 ticket for having my front license plate in the window on the dash board. Hence my signature pic now shows a plate.
Before I could pull away, that county cop nabbed another person with no front plate. He was bringing in over $500/hour for Cook County. What a racket. Between stuff like this, my real estate tax hike, our local sales tax hikes, toll hikes, and our wonderful Illinois state tax hike......words don't describe how I feel. If I wasn't so tied to this state with family and job, I would love to cash out and leave, never to return.....never ever......never......ever.
Ok, calm down. Just hit the "submit" button.
And yes, here is another cry baby.

Must have been a slow day for the cop.
An LEO here in Texas (2 plate state) said that if they enforced the law.............they would spend their entire day stopping Corvettes. He indicated he had more pressing things to do. Like catching speeding Corvettes and add on the no-plate penalty to hammer home the point.

Now, you no longer need to be perplexed.
I have a 96 C4 in IL and I have never had a front plate on it or my 95 I had a few years ago.
But nice to know near Chicago they are pushing the rule. Down here cops look the other way when it comes to vettes.

Me too.To the OP. He was gunning for you. If not he would never have known you were from Illinois. We have a 2 plate law here, but if they see you without a front plate, they have to intentionally be looking to see where you're from because not all state have a 2 plate law.
just put the damn plate on, is it really worth giving your money to the government just because you don't like front plates? seriously!

That's not always the case. I remember when I was living in Chicago and attending school (didn't need to retitle my car as I had not taken up residency) and one of my class mates changed his plates and all to become a resident of IL. They only provided him one plate and wanted to charge him for a second. Since he did not know and came from a rear plate only state (Michigan) he got nailed by a bored cop for no front plate. Maybe things have changed but that was what happened in 2003. As much as I love Chicago I'd never move back unless the money was REALLLLLLLLY good.
I feel your pain brother. We are required 2 plates in Texas as well. I ran only one for years. I kept receiving verbal warnings and chose to ignore them. Finally one LEO gave me a written warning, so I decided to do the right thing. The reasoning behind needing a front plate is simply idiotic. Try reading the front plate of vehicle approaching you.
Two plate state here in NY too. Been driving Corvettes for over 25 years and never had a front plate on any of them. I've gotten four no front plate tickets total in all those years. The last one I got must have been about 6 or 7 years ago, so LEO around here really arent too concerned about enforcing this stupid law, when they finally do decide to crack down I will then put on the plate, as long as they continue not to bother me I'm not gonna worry about it.
NJ requires two. I have my front plate on but with the cover over it. Have been pulled over a couple of times and it has never been mentioned. If I remember correctly its a $60 non-moving violation - no points. I figured if it is ever mentioned I'd try the "forgot to remove the cover after the last car show excuse" - if I get ticketed, I get what I deserve.
Though, I do warn people, if you happen to leave a restuarant or bar after a couple of drinks its reason enough to get pulled over and the plate could be the least of your worries.

Another front plate cry baby.
