If you modify any car with go fast parts it's not going to be as reliable as it was straight from the factory "STOCK" unless you go internal and forge everything period.
However, if you want to compare strength and reliability of modified 4 bangers, the most strongest and stoutest of them all to me is the DSM Mitsubishi 4G63T that came in the early 1st and 2nd generation turbo Eclipse, Talon, Laser family. Those cars all had iron blocks and the 2g that I had was making around 500 crank hp on stock internals, stock head bolts.. other than a set of HKS cam shafts. That was with a FP Green 50 trim turbo and a ZEX 75 wet shot. The only thing that I hated most about it was that it was wrong wheel drive. Anything more than 300 hp in a fwd is useless to me. I finally got smart and now drive a modded 03 Subaru WRX as my daily driver when I'm not driving my Z06.
It's fun as hell raping a lot of higher hp cars from red light to red light with AWD.
Here is a pic of my old DSM turbo Eclipse, engine and WRX for what it's worth. Ha!

The 2nd gen 4G63T is notorious for crankwalk even on stock engines. That's about the last Japanese engine that I would set as an example for reliability.
The WRX... Now THAT is a sweet a$$ car with much more potential than any DSM and 10x more reliable. Also, the bug-eyes are by far the best looking Subaru's.

Fortunately I was one of the lucky one's that never got crankwalk, but none the less the 1g's and 2nd gens can hold a lot of power on stock internals compared to any Honda outside of the crankwalk issue more reliably.
The Bugeye WRX is my favorite to, and it's hard to beat AWD with all season capability and it has been very reliable and solid outside of me breaking 2nd gear in it.
However, we C5 Z06 guy's that have 02 through the early years of the 03 Z06's have to deal with the valve spring ordeal. There's always something to deal with. Ha!

springs are an easy fix though, cost me $65 for all new springs and $43 for the valve seals
If there was ever a day I didn't want my c5z and c6z any longer I would probably have an STI. They are pretty stout cars and aren't very expensive either.
Well, it's all in where you look. You go to an event like Import Alliance, East Coast Mega Meet, Eibach out in Cali, some of the hella flush meets...you're going to see some monster builds...believe me.
When a Honda is done properly, you likely wouldn't even know what it's potential really is. The "ricers" are the people who make their car ridiculous looking regardless of make or model. I see Corvettes on here with faux chrome pieces, lambo doors, LED's everywhere...that's ricer as it gets!
Here's my friend Bisi's wagon....700whp...AND it's a SOHC 1.6 liter! The OP would roll up next to this in his stock *** C5 and get **** raped if he challenged this old wagon...haha.
I purchased my IMMACULATE C5 for $6,300. That's WAY below book value. I can turn around tomorrow and sell it for enough money to easily build FOUR 10 second Hondas. Would I ever do that? NO! Almost every Honda on the face of the planet is ugly as hell in comparison to my C5 Corvette. The only Honda that comes remotely close in looks is the NSX. But when it comes to performance my LS1 makes the NSX Motor CRY.
Not even counting insurance reimbursement, if I wrecked my C5 tomorrow I would still make money!!! My friend just payed $6,500 a piece for 3 C5's completely wrecked in the front end.
Who cares about your friends car? With the right amount of money you can make anything go fast. I find it funny that he would go all out under the hood but leave those POS tires on... LMFAO!!!
My C5 is still fast, capable and a lot of fun on a drag strip AND around a track. The best part is I only payed $6,300!!!!! GET SOME!!!

Hey now! Stock c5s aren't that fast. No doubt that was a good deal though.
My '03 Z is first in my collection of sporty cars, next I'm thinking of getting an sl 55 or 65. I've considered getting an s 2000, thats a sporty looking Honda. I would never by a civic or anything that has the engine installed sideways. I do respect Honda's commitment to quality. They have great motorcyles and when we replace the generator for the deer camp, it's going to be another Honda.

*Cough* Get a c6z if you can. It's a night and day difference going from one to the other.

Yes sir!! They are very good cars for the buck. Mine isn't an STI but I was sold on the awd aspect of it especially living in the mountains of western NC. I'm about 5 minutes from the Blue Ridge Park Way and about 30 to 40 minutes from the mighty Dragon's Tail.
