3.8L 6 cylinder...... Suddenly everyone shuts up about displacement this and that...
For what my .02 are worth, i think MY biggest problems with the import crowd are these:
1) The people
2) The exhaust
No, it is not cool for your car to sound like the most pissed off weed wacker in the neighborhood, i don't care what you think..
I have seen some amazing looking and driving imports, and i have seen significantly more that are absolute garbage... The same can be said for many domestics...
Gutting the interior of your car, putting a recaro in the front seat, then a fart can on the back of your car isn't dope. You might BE A DOPE, but it isn't dope...
Trying to drift your front wheel drive car around a city street isn't dope either.
Adding Altezza lights doesn't give you more horsepower...
You don't change your injectors and add a fuel pressure regulator to add horsepower to a stock engine...
AND ON AND ON AND ON...
Honestly, i blame the fast and furious movies...

The true Honda/Subi/Toyota "hot-rodders" are cool guys who know their stuff about the cars they drive, how to make them faster, perform better in whatever environment they drive (drag, roadrace. auto-X, etc), and enjoy shooting the bull with their American V8 counterparts.
Its the ignorant ones who tick me off. Best ricer story I have is when I was racing my '90 5.0 Mustang (which ran high-10s at the time, and this was '97 or so... and I drove it to the track, so that was a pretty fast street car in the day) and these idiots in the staging lanes were cutting people off, etc. All I wanted was to keep my spot in line, and so we got into it a little bit. Then I hear, "why don't you cut your motor in half...." I couldn't hear the rest of his rant over my own laughter. You have got to be (*&^ joking, you moron! And it was some crapped-out, one seat in the car, 14-sec Nissan or something. Meanwhile I had full interior, A/C, slapped on the slicks and ran a 10.6 @ 135mph, babying it out of the hole b/c I was driving it home.
Granted, there are idiots in both camps, but that is one I will never forget b/c the guy was just an absolute fool.
I do agree with the thought that there will always be someone faster, driving something considered "better."
I'm the original owner of my C5... back then I had the "latest and greatest". Now, I have a used junker to most people. Who cares?

I love my C5 but I am first and foremost a car guy, not a Corvettes-only guy. Anyone that talks crap on something as broad as "Hondas" or "imports" is missing out on a large segment of cool cars and people.
I'd rather hang out with a genuine gear head that owns a Honda than someone that is only into Vettes or V8s or domestics.

What makes a great car is not all about track performance, the comparison to Mona Lisa says it all!
endyn which is one of the best honda builders in the country and also a corvette enthusiast will charge you north of 10k for a honda motor that can handle actual track duty.
guys talk about building 11 second hondas for 10k counting the car and you absolutely can do it.
they just don't mention how long it stays alive
personally i think the high point of honda are with cars like the integra R stock. it was 200hp and 2600lbs with short gearing, got 28-30mpg and ran high 14s but was extremely nimble, had an LSD, did wonderful in snow and had a virtual small pick up truck bed with the seats down for storage. it was a very useful and reliable daily drive if you just left it alone
It comes down to the builder...(old cell pics on my last Honda build...2008-2009). Car was put on the street in 2006 with my custom turbo setup, then torn down in winter 2008 and fully built.
Mockup for mani with GT3082R

Fabbed everything from scratch...header, intercooler piping, catch can system, etc. Motor was built with used parts by me, of course, (rods, pistons, etc) and spent less than 1300.00 on the build. I custom mounted NSX brakes and drilled Prelude rotors to fit.

Custom brakes

11" rears

Billet suspension with one piece coilovers

Cost of the car, coilovers, wheels, custom brake setup, internals, turbo setup, tuning, every nut and bolt polished stainless....I had 8700.00 in the car. Made over 430whp dead reliable (2450lb car), 11 sec capable all day, handled like rails, stopped with anything out there...period.
Car was mildly built in 2006. I was one of the first out there to tune ethanol from the pump.

Anyone that thinks Honda's are capable, or misinformed, subjected to poor builds, or just intentionally ignorant of the facts.

The OP here paid 6300 for his Corvette, now acts high and mighty...weak...
^^^^^ that right there is very cool. Great work and you have some impressive fabrication skills on top of mechanical/tuning know-how.
But you're a hot-rodder and a gearhead. Most "ricers" I have met are not. They slap on a fart-pipe and drive like idiots trying to _prove_ to someone that they have a fast car.
Certianly there are some like this in every camp, I understand.
When a Honda is done properly, you likely wouldn't even know what it's potential really is. The "ricers" are the people who make their car ridiculous looking regardless of make or model. I see Corvettes on here with faux chrome pieces, lambo doors, LED's everywhere...that's ricer as it gets!
Here's my friend Bisi's wagon....700whp...AND it's a SOHC 1.6 liter! The OP would roll up next to this in his stock *** C5 and get **** raped if he challenged this old wagon...haha.

The Corvette is an amazing machine, and I love my Z, but someone needs to flood this thread with videos of Corvettes getting tooled by a few low budget imports.
Oi...
