I would love to see how you get 35mpg on the highway in your C5!! I used to get mid to upper 20s when cruising but mid-30s??? I say: prove it!

neither of those cars were 1/4 mile cars. the s2000 was ridiculous at slalom speed with good tires

in the 1/4 mile the c5 is considerably faster. on an autocross course that gap is narrowed by a lot

Not only ignorance, but arrogance. Many times I've parked the Z06 to hang out with the Miata guys in my $3000 NA. It might be one of the most underpowered cars on the road, but I have a blast driving it. Same if I had a civic, a focus, or something that is relatively fun to drive. Am I a ricer then?

I would embarrass half of the local Pontiac GTO (2nd gen) club with my last VW, both in the straights and turns. Funny how their attitude went from "haha, hipster car" to "holy crap that's a fast Jetta."

A few years ago one of those fart-pipe Honda's wanted to race me. His condition, I would have to remove the wires on 4 spark plugs to make it even. I told him "Sure, if you remove one of your cams".

FWIW: I'd love to have a nicely turbo'd S2000 with all the suspension goodies.

Making a vehicle perform around a race track like a corvette requires a large group of some of the most talented automotive engineers in the world. Even if you have a PHD in electrical and mechanical engineering, you aren't going to create something that is engineered to perfect harmony like a corvette out of a car that was designed for 225 hp. There is no one person that has the capabilities of all the GM corvette engineers put together.

corvette still has budget restraints. some of the all out companies like pagani are examples of wide open budgets. the zonda would be an example of a clean slate.

it's all about balancing the budget. corvette puts more umph in performance at it's given price than about anything else. in fact the s2000 wasn't all that much less than a c5 but had a less expensive to produce engine, frame and drivetrain. honda did however put more money in the interior

Default The whole Corvette vs Honda thread

I have been a sports car fan all my life. I had a 69 Z28 and saved money to buy a new 74 Corvette. I am currently driving a 2003 C5. I also own a 2009 Honda Accord Sport Coupe 6 cyl with a 6 speed. I love both cars. The Honda is extremely refined, fast and fit and finish are exemplary. It is not a track car but for touring its a blast. Black on black leather, beautiful styling. I know its good for 200,000 to 300,000 miles with routine mtc.

The C5 is gorgeous. Fit and finish is not great. The interior is sub par. The drive train is one of the best in the world. The engine is absolutely world class. Handling is awesome. I absolutely love my Corvette. It is truly a legendary sports car. On a beautiful day its the car to be in.

This is a comparison of oranges and apples in many respects including vehicle price point. The most expensive mainstream Honda maxs out at about 32,000. If you discredit Honda racing and engineering your world view in my opinion is limited. GM makes a world class sports car and has over 60 years of proving that. There are totally different mission statements between these manufactures. You have to appreciate each for what it accomplishes.

yes but the original post was fast in a straight line with no mention of a road course. Id still take a Z06 around a race track. Reminds me of the time a civic bounced it off the limiter a few times when I was in my 454 C3 vert next to him. He asked me if I wanted to try my luck with that POS. I told him win or lose. I am still driving a 500hp chrome bumper vette. You are driving your moms civic. He stalled on the green.

You know what's up and funnier than that??? I can kill 3/4's the people around here where I live from red light to red light in my modded AWD fart pipe Subaru WRX against cars regardless of make, unless they're AWD, with about 100 less horsepower if not more, just simply because of superior traction. Ha!

Wouldn't a better comparison equate to a specific model:
Corvette Vs NSX, Civic vs Cavalier, etc., last time I checked, Honda has competed successfully in the PINNACLE of all auto racing, F1, can't say the same for Chevy.
Having said that, these comparisons are ignorant and immature. C5 Vettes are relatively inexpensive, can't buy a new Accord for that amount, why the snobbish attitude of some
Vette owner's I'll never understand.

That is also very true. If you do try to make a 225 hp car perform like a corvette, it's going to cost a lot more than a corvette just for the same performance. There still isn't anything that is a better bang for the buck than a corvette, so my argument stands.

I am glad to see there are some actual car enthusiasts on this site. Both platforms have their benefits. The fanboy arguments get old

There ain't nothin' like good old American iron (or in our case aluminum) and cubic inches. They haven't been writing songs about Honda Civics for the last 60 years. I've had both, and guess what!

it does. reliability is the big problem. that video i posted of my old integra lifted the head later that day from the head bolts stretching. that particular car isn't even THAT wild. you're still talking 4hp per cubic inch though and that's a LOT of cylinder pressure.

endyn which is one of the best honda builders in the country and also a corvette enthusiast will charge you north of 10k for a honda motor that can handle actual track duty.

guys talk about building 11 second hondas for 10k counting the car and you absolutely can do it.

they just don't mention how long it stays alive

personally i think the high point of honda are with cars like the integra R stock. it was 200hp and 2600lbs with short gearing, got 28-30mpg and ran high 14s but was extremely nimble, had an LSD, did wonderful in snow and had a virtual small pick up truck bed with the seats down for storage. it was a very useful and reliable daily drive if you just left it alone

I'm actually only 23 years old. And I do have respect for ANYTHING fast. I have also attended the SEMA Show for the last 3 years. I actually purchased my 1998 Corvette for $6,300 with 93k miles, NEW B&B Exhaust, Cross Drilled and Slotted Rotors, C6 Z06 Wheels, SS Braided Brake Lines and High Quality Leather Aftermarket Seats. The car also has virtually every factory option for the 1998 model year. Since purchasing the car I have added a Vararam-B2 Cold Air Intake, 12'' Polk Audio Subwoofer and a 800 Watt CRUNCH Amp. That makes the Grand Total come to $6,800 I have spent on my 1998 C5. I LOVE it with a passion. I also am a Corvette Racing Fan who got to see them DOMINATE the ALMS Competition last year winning the Drivers, Team and Manufactures Championships! This year is no different with their recent WIN at Sebring. I also love to look at Laguna Seca Lap Times where the 2013 ZR1 is #1! For Example, The 2013 Lexus LFA is a $375,000 BASE PRICE CAR and GETS SPANKED by the $112,600 MSRP ZR1! The Corvette IS and ALWAYS will be the BEST bang for your buck production car IN THE WORLD! I would also like to see a Honda beat a CORVETTE around a road track!

On a side note, CHECK THESE OUT IN 1080p HD!
