You don't sell your Vette because you're old, you get old because you sold your Vette! (Originally heard this pertaining to cycle riding)
I'll be 65 in two weeks and I guess I've been having a mid life crisis since I turned 16 because that's when my love affair with cars and motorcycles began and is stronger than ever now. I'll ride the Harley until I can't walk and then I'll still have the Corvette to cruise in. Getting old , whats that ?
Didn't know there was an age requirement for these cars. I'm 25, and I just picked up a 99 6-speed last week. Granted, I also am going through a divorce. Maybe I am having a midlife crisis? It's going to suck to die at 50.
Depends on how much you squeeze into the 50 years, or how ever many you have. None of us know the answer to that.
But don't worry about the Ex. You can easily replace her, when and if you get into the mood for that. There's millions of 'em out there. Even on the other side of the planet, are women who think differently than most of the one's on this side.
Keep and enjoy the C5. It may throw a tantrum from time to time, if you don't give it 'enough' of your attention. But, it will never run out on you....
Live like life is short, drive your C5 daily. Life is good....

Already got a new girl lined up, no worries there, and she loves the 'vette. The C5 will be my daily driver, so she'll get plenty of love and playtime. I'm even buying her some nice christmas gifts to cement our bond. Can't wait to get all the kinks worked out of this car.
All my friends just rolled their eyes when I told them I was getting a Corvette. They were stunned when I told them it cost me less than $14k and got 30mpg highway. Suddenly their little $18k econo-boxes didn't look so nice. haha
So I was watching Top Gear and the subject was "mid life crises" and my wife just laugh. One of the cars was a C-4 (red of course) and the other two was a hot rod and a yellow Porsche.
My question is am I going through a mid life crises?
I've owned my C-5 for 11 years now (I'm 58) and back in 76 I had a 74 for about 6 years until life kicked in the I had to sell it to get something a bit more practical. I went without a Vette for sometime until the kids grew up. I knew that one day I was going to get another because "once a Vette owner, always a Vette owner", right?
Anyway I need some support from you guys. Should I keep her or is it time to sell?
I found that in my relative old age ( 68 ) the secret of life is to be happy. If a Corvette makes you happy then enjoy it. If a Lexus makes you happy go for that.
The one thing you don't want to do is have some one other than yourself, tell you what your should have to make you happy.
I've never asked anyone here or anywhere else for that matter to validate something I wanted to have.
Just my point of view
Bill aka ET
Amen ET. As long as your life style doesn't inflict pain or hardship on others, keep doing it. As far as your age comment, let me pass on this saying, youth doesn't have any age limit, it is a state of mind!!!!!
Mid Life Crisis...........that is something made up by women to explain what they perceive as embarrassing behavior by their man. Women use this term when they don't want to use the truth or when they simply don't understand. They will use it to not only explain the behavior to others, but to themselves.
When a man is unfaithful after many years of marriage a woman will tell herself it's a mid life crisis and he won't do it again. It's a lot easier to accept than the truth. The truth being he found the hotty down the road more desirable than her.
Most women and a lot of men don't understand why an older man would want a fast flashy car. In their mind fast flashy cars are associated with young guys. So they use the mid life crisis to explain to themselves why an old guy likes fast cars.
I have lifelong friends that have never owned a performance car of any kind. They never questioned why I had a big block 4 speed car when I was a teenager. They never questioned why I bought a new Trans Am when I was 22. I buy a Corvette when I'm in my 50s and I'm having a mid life crisis. Simple truth is I've always been a car person. It's something they just don't get.
If you enjoy your car keep it!
ha ha i agree 100% I grew up with my dad owning a custom harley shop till i was 6 years old. then we got into racing dirtbikes, fourwheelers, snowmobiles, and boats. then my first car was a third gen trans am ('84) then i got my first bike at 21 when i enlisted in the coast guard. i just got rid of my trans am last year and this past feb i bought my C-5. now im only 30 (turn 31 7 days before christmas) but everyone started saying i was having a mid life crisis. Prob because i sold my bike to get rid of a payment because i was engaged and planning a wedding. well things don't always pan out and we broke up. I went out and bought a new tahoe for a "family vehicle" when we were together so after we broke up i went and traded that bi*%H in and got a mid sized S-10 and a C5 with 30,000 miles on her. I was single again and just turned 30 so i must have been having a "mid life crisis" Means to say i fell in love again only this time with my C5. with my trans am and its 350, you had to spend a decent amount of money just to get a good 350 hp. on my C5 (ls1) Just a stout cam, springs, pushrods, and lifters, and a good solid tune and your over 400 with stock heads and intake. these cars are a thing of beauty. If i ever get rid of this one ill be buying another vette... but if you always have fast cars and bikes and toys and your kids are out of the house and you want another fast car now that you can afford it, well that doesn't mean your having a mid life crisis.. just means your ready to have another fast car and enjoy yourself. I don't have any kids yet but my passion for building fast cars will always be there. i deploy all over the world... i think i deserve to have a car as gorgeous as the C5 sittin in the garage when i come home. i think people are envious, or jealous, or just bitter if thats what they think. if you can get one.. get one. but don't hold of on buying or selling because of what other people say or think. if we go through life worrying about what other people think we are going to be miserable.

Always wanted a Vette, now I have one. IDC what anyone thinks. Hell, mine even has the stock wagons and the Bose system. This way I can irritate those who don't have a Vette, and those who hate them stock. Best of both worlds.

So let me get this straight... you sold the Vette because of life (kids).
That right there is the reason most guys sell their toys (I sold my Ninja for the same reason). Did we stop liking toys? - No! And we all knew at some point down the road that life would change again (usually the kids move out/marry etc) and we would have some excess funds and more importantly the time to enjoy them. To the 'Professionals', when we spend it on house reno's, spouse (trips, upgrade vehicle...), this is 'normal'. When we spend it on 'selfish' things (Corvette etc) then it is labelled as 'Mid-life Crisis' even though we want to have our spouse in the passenger seat enjoying it with us!
Mid-life is about abandoning your adult life/responsibilities - not about the car you drive that you now can afford!
Age has nothing to do with it (other than maybe health).
If you enjoy the car, keep it. Plain and simple. Just tune out the people who want to race, the people that think you must be loaded or a drug dealer, and the ones that think you must be going through a "mid-life crisis", whatever the hell that is.
If you have a true passion for Corvettes, the answer is obvious.
Had 5 new Corvettes since I was 30 years old. Now have a 99 MM6 Red Coupe with 148,000 miles and going strong. Still doing light maintenance. These cars have and continue to be a great and enjoyable part of our lifestyle.
79 years old and planning a C7 next year !

Just don't become that farmer guy that drives a pickup and drives with his head on a swivel, checking out every other farmer's livestock and crops...I hate getting behind that guy!

Sorry to say...but if you have to ask someone about what makes you happy then you really are confused. You are the only one who can make yourself happy...that being said, since you are going to go by others opinions, then I would suggest that you keep your Corvette and enjoy it as you have been doing....02 registered

I bought a c 5 today, I am 79 years young. Dec 2 I will 80
Knew I would own one at age 9. Took til midlife to have the $$ to fulfill the dream. Suspect I'll own one until they revolk my driving privileges. Mostly we need a car, might as well be a sporty one!
Are you crazy. Get rid of the car now while you still can remember where you live. I'll buy your car dirt cheap and rid you of the burden of trying to remembering where you parked it. Lol.
