I have always had some sort of "sports car" starting with a 1964-1/2 Mustang(wish I had that one back) then a 1975 Trans Am, a 1985 RX7, a 1994 3000GT and now for my 60th birthday I bought my 2002 Vette--which I consider the pinnacle in the sports car progression over the years. I feel that age is a mindset and the saying "your only as old as you feel" applies here and my Vette makes me "feel" at least 20 yrs younger every time I plant my butt into that leather seat of hers.
As I age I certainly find that time indeed goes by faster and I fully intend to enjoy what time I have left in this world and my car is a big part of that enjoyment. So I say as long as your joints allow you to get in and out of your Vette continue to do so and don't let age or anything else get in the way of life's finer things--and there's nothin' finer than a Corvette with the targa (or convertable top) removed on a beautiful day. Just my .02.
I bought my first Vette when I was in my early 20's.
I now own Vettes number 6+7 both c-5s
I'll be 69 next month.
You're only too old when you can't drive one anymore, then park it and become a wash and wax kind of guy.
A: If you own an automatic vette, and you are not a girl, or don't drag race competitively, You are too old! Lol, make yourself useful and give your car to a girl and buy a Buick (or better yet, just hop on the senior bus when you need to go food shopping)
B: You relate your car in any way, with the word "cruiser". Corvettes are born as sports cars, and lol, "cruiser" is quite frankly an embarrassment to the marque. If this is you, face it, YOU ARE TOO DAMN OLD! See the solution above, the oldy bus is perfect for you.
C: If, by some weird freak of nature, you fit both categories above, just bring your car to a crusher and do it a favor. Hopefully the cars spirit will rise up and find some American steel that needs a fighting spirit!
When I was young I owned a 67 GTO never lost the good feeling for a performance car. I'm 68 kids have moved old. Wife has mellowed out. So I bought the Vette I have always wanted. Age is just a number.

So I was watching Top Gear and the subject was "mid life crises" and my wife just laugh. One of the cars was a C-4 (red of course) and the other two was a hot rod and a yellow Porsche.
My question is am I going through a mid life crises?
I've owned my C-5 for 11 years now (I'm 58) and back in 76 I had a 74 for about 6 years until life kicked in the I had to sell it to get something a bit more practical. I went without a Vette for sometime until the kids grew up. I knew that one day I was going to get another because "once a Vette owner, always a Vette owner", right?
Anyway I need some support from you guys. Should I keep her or is it time to sell?
Turned 60 this past month, Have had the car for 16 years hope to have it for a long time more. Its all what you make of it. If you think its time to get rid of it no matter what someone said it might be time to dump it.
Additionally, mid-life just happens to be the time when most guys can afford a Corvette. The kids are gone, the house is paid for, the 401K is doing well...it's time to finally make good on a dream deferred.
Men often don't get credit for doing the right things all their lives and meeting all their obligations. The second it becomes about them, they get dumped on. No good deed goes unpunished.
I wanted a Corvette since I saw one in Sept 1967. It was a blue 68 vert. Mid life crisis my ***, the kids are grown, the business is doing well, and the wife would rather have me in the garage than somewhere else.
It's called you can finally afford something for yourself that you always wanted.
I just purchased a KTM 350 XCF-W. I gave up dirt bikes 20 years ago after back surgery. Between the corvettes and the bike, I might have to retire to have enough time for them.
phoneman91: Your knees will tell you when you are too old to drive a Corvette. ...
He came real close... When you can't get in and out of the car anymore that may be the time.
As far as "Am I too old (mentally)?", I'd say, Google "mental age test" and take one... but ifn you're thinkin' like that, you're older than I am and I'm 63 goin' on 40.
Now come down, I'm part of the club
Top Gear can call it what they want and they can bite my middle age you know what. I might not be so young in the bones but I refuse to get old in my mind. And age is only a state of mind. Like ET said, if it makes you happy then do it. And I'm to old to worry about what others think or say. As to the young whippier snappers all I got to say is get out of the way, grandpa got him a blown vette and he is not afraid to use it
You are as old as you think. One of the guys in my office, just purchased a 2014 Mustand GT500 Shelby Cobra...664 blown horse power and a cost of $66,804.00 Oh, by the way, he is 64 years old.

Too old? You get what you get when you can get it. If I could have had a Vette when I was 16, I would have. Unfortunately, all I could afford was a '69 Nova 4 door, 6 cylinder. Car guys are car guys. You like what you like, and many people don't get the chance to drive the kind of cars they really want to because they have priorities that just don't support sports cars until later in life.
I don't know you, so you may be old, but that has nothing to do with the kind of car that you drive.
