Wow James sorry to hear. That is really classless to do something like this to an employee before Christmas, especially to a person with 16 years invested. I have to admire the way you handled the situation though. I wish you the best and have no doubt that you will end up much better off in the short term. Best to you and your family and please enjoy the Holiday season. Merry Christmas!
Mike
Why the hell companies do something like that right before Christmas is crazy ... they could at least wait until after the first of the year before kicking someone out the door !! Best of luck to ya !
Good Millwork guys are far and few between! If you are "Good or Exceptional" at what you do, you will have no problem going to another shop! I am a Union Flooring Carpenter and specialize in custom hardwood and resilient floors! I can walk into any shop in the Chicago area and get a job in minutes! Most guys don't take the time and effort to perfect their craft! I am currently being paid $7.00 over Forman scale because I love what I do and very good at it!
Good luck to you Buddy, you shouldn't have any worries with your experience!
Hell I thought you were a pretty cool guy before, but now that I know you are a Union Skilled Millwork guy that loves Vettes, I like you a little more!

Oh my goodness James. This is horrible news. You will definitely be in my thoughts this Christmas and I hope something comes along asap. Big ups to you for your very positive reaction. I don't know that I would have been as big of a person.
Keep us posted buddy
not something you'd like to hear around the holidays, best of luck
Sorry to hear that...and right before Christmas too! That was pretty low; after all that time you gave them you would think that they could've at least waited till after the holidays! Best of luck and hope things look brighter for you very quickly.
Merry Christmas
Wow .... I'm stunned with what you'll have to say ..... My corvette Brothers .....thanks to all of you ...
Me and Tina are viewing this as a blessing , the stress and hours are now long gone and to be honest with all of you I'm tired and it's time to chill for a few months , heck I've got trees that need to come down around here and I need to catch up on a ton of work around here ...
She knows and I know that I put Jc Millwork Inc. on the map , one thing I that learned about this I will never train another man to do what I do at half of what I make , it was their plan all along ....
Merry Christmas to each and every one of you ...... I owe Bill a big thanks for calling us today and checking up on me and Tina ....
It's good to read that you're in a position where you can take some time to reflect and plan your next move.
I have been bought and sold five times in my career through company mergers and layoffs. The last time, I rushed into another job without really looking at alternatives. It was the most miserable year of my life where I felt overworked, underpaid and extremely stressed out. I was able to walk away and live off of live savings for awhile which led me into a consulting practice which then led me into a better corporate role while I build up my side businesses.
Sounds like you left with class and dignity. Traits that are still in high demand. Even in this luke-warm economy.
Have a Merry Christmas James.
Real bummer that your ex company did to you. Many of us have had similar happen, the good thing is that a new better venture will come along.
The very best to you and your family mate in the New Year!

Unfortunately it seems cruel , but this is how most companies do it . They tie up loose ends before the end of the year so it doesn't move into the books for the new year. Revenge can be sweet though. Start your own business and go after their customers. It's the American way.
Really sorry to hear this James. Sounds like you needed a break/some time off anyway. so enjoy the time with family and friends. When you're ready, I'm sure you'll succeed going forward.
Wow. Just wow. I've seen it before and very seldom does it turn out good for the companies that let their good people go. In my younger years, I trimmed new homes and later did commercial cabinetry. I had a contractor get to me for $35K back in the late 80s. That contractor is now OOB and good riddance. I switched careers at that time and went into IT sales/support and have had my own company now for 23+ years. I'm not at all worried about you but I do want to wish you a very Merry Christmas and the new year will bring some new adventures your way.
Well first off i agree with most of what's been said.
Second, F#@$ those ppl over at your old job.
I personally know James and have seen his work here in Houston, facebook, etc.
You bud have good leadership skills and experience in what you do that nobody else can match. IMO the ppl at your old company are going to REGRET indefinitely this decision they have made.
You will be better off in many ways. Good luck with your future endeavors and i'm 100% sure you will have no problem finding a place that will appreciate your hard work.

No truer words were printed, wishing you and your family the very best. Merry Christmas! Greetings, Rob
I had almost ten years in with the company that hired me right out of college. Then they cut me lose in the middle of an afternoon in the middle of winter with no notice or a by your leave and don't let the door hit me in the butt on the way out. They said they also "were going in a different direction." I moved back to my home state and found another job a few months later. Then one day after a couple of years I read in the local paper this particular company had filed bankruptcy and gone out of business. I guess they got what they deserved.
