I put Nitto 555's on when I ditched run-flats. I thought they were heaven, but I think anything would feel that way when switching from RFT's.

Just replaced them with Hankook Ventus EVO2's. Not enough wheel time to comment about handling/traction but they seem quieter and softer than the Nitto's.

I got 42k miles out of those 555's. Although they got slippery at about 30k. $80 rebate through October right now too.

What if you want tires that will do OK in cold temperatures? Not snow and ice (well, maybe once or twice) but temperatures in the low 40s and upper 30s? The Michelins are rated as all season but the Hankooks and Nittos are not. Just how big a difference will this make? If not much difference, then I would go for the cheaper tire. If getting the Michelins means that I won't slide off the road into a tree because the temperature is 38, then I'll spend the extra money. (I am not an aggressive driver.)

FYI, my 2004 appears to be running on their original GY runflats, but I plan to replace them next spring. I'm trying to get a handle on that now.

Summer tires don't turn into banana peels at 40 degrees. They do suck in snow though.

Me too. Put 7000 miles on them this summer and have no complaints. Smooth, quiet, great grip and a good price.

Summer tires aren't designed for traction in snow and ice but can handle a cold road surface just fine. It's not the temperature of the road surface, it's what's on it that matters.

There is still an $80 rebate on Hankook's until 10/31/14. You have to buy 4 tires to get this.
