Since it's a 2001, the box you speak of is likely fixable. Do not let a dealer tell you differently. FWIW, that box is called an electronic brake control module (EBCM). Do a search on EBCM fix and you will see what is involved.

When you get the messages on the DIC,, WITHOUT turning OFF the ignition, use the reset button to clear the messages and read the DTCs with the engine running. When you turn the ignition OFF, the EBTCM clears the DTCs and you will not see all the codes that are being thrown.
