Not a Rolex but 1967 vintage Bulova Accutron Astronaut, I purchased this onboard my ship in 1967. Still runs perfect and has only had the band replaced. I would love to have a Rolex but I'll keep drooling at the Rolex store.....

I can't see paying thousands for something to tell me what time it is.. My phone keeps very accurate time
I think it's a generation thing, you are probably in your late 20's and see no need for a watch. We older folk find it easier to look at a watch and not our phone.
A few years ago while on vacation we crossed from San Diego into Tijuana. I was looking at a "Rolex" watch in one of the stores. The seller offered it to me for $23000. I told him I saw the same one in New York City for $18. His reply "you can have it for $15"............

I'm 41 and don't wear a watch but I'm pretty sure if I did it would be a Timex that relayed the same information to me for $30 . I guess it's a status thing but now there are Apple watches that can do about anything
I used to want a nice watch until I went to my first HPDE track event. Now a couple grand would easily be allocated to some T1 bars, a trailex trailer, and a RD radiator with an EOC.....

My watch is older than you I guess it's like driving a fancy pickup truck, luxury car, big homes, iPhones, everyone has their poison. Some like to limit their poison, I have only owned two watches in my life, a Timex I got in high school for $6.99 and the one in the picture for $175.'s. in 1967.
I see the typical responses to a Rolex here, "I can buy a $15.00 look a like", "I can tell time on my Timex/cell phone" and to be quite honest those of us who own REAL Rolex's could care less. Make no mistake, Rolex has qualities that command far greater attention. Buy a Rolex it only appreciates with time, buy a Timex throw it away after a few years. Is it worth the thousands it takes to own one....depends, it's going to appreciate over time just like stocks will do. Collectors pay crazy money on Rolex's and they won't on other useless brands of timepieces.
There's nothing wrong with Timex or K-Mart watches cause they tell time just as well or better. BUT you will never have that feeling of a real Rolex on your wrist. Remember there are people who don't get what is so cool about a Corvette either.
Thanks for looking and thanks for the compliments, E.T. (Bill) you should look at Rolexforums.com
It's funny but in watch forums you'll read about, "Why would anybody waste money on a fancy car. I get where I want to go in a $1000 beater".
Of everything collectable that I own a watch I got new 28 years ago has had the best increase in value. I don't buy the things I like to make money but it's OK when they do appreciate.
I like watches and want to get another one one day for when I go out but all the ones I have had end up getting banged into stuff so I haven thought about it in a long time. I just use my phone.
Shouldn't be complicated, or at least tough for this community of corvette owners to understand. Sure your phone has the time. Sure you can go buy something for 50 bucks. But you're looking for more.
Why the heck did everyone here buy a corvette, I mean this thing has four wheels and will get you were you need to go.
We all preach about how the Z06 can outperform many "luxury cars" 5x the cost etc. Doesn't mean you're not looking for that level of refinement. Nothing wrong with living a life based purely on functionality. Nothing wrong with choosing the finer things in life in certain areas. It's a choice - do what makes thyself happy!

I sometimes talk about age and wisdom.... Your last comment, is something that time, has taught me, to be the Secret of life..... and that is " BEING HAPPY " doing the things that make you happy.....
My wife of 48 years, makes me happy
My kids, make me happy.
My Grand kids make me happy,
My Career has made me happy
MY C5 makes me happy
My life , for the most part, had been very happy
Being Happy is the secret of life that everyone is searching for.
It doesn't get any better than that... be it a " happy meal " or a " happy ending ".
Its the screen name
