Default Radar Detectors?

I don't plan on going ridiculously fast but just the pure look of a Vette is enough to draw too many eyes so I reckon it wouldn't hurt to have a little bit of help from a radar detector. Anybody have any brand recommendations? I'd like to avoid spending $100s of dollars.

Been running a V1 in my C7 since I picked it up in Bowling Green, very happy with the unit. I was originally deciding between that and the Escort, but I decided the pay-to-use GPS subscription baloney wasn't of any use to me. I plan on getting a mirror mount for the V1 for the '02 we just picked up, and possibly just buying another V1 to avoid having to swap it back and forth between cars.

The directional and audible notification, along with the simple readout of numbers and signal strength, makes the V1 a very straightforward "quick glance to know" unit.

I use the V1 in my 04. Wouldn't trade it for anything else. Most everyone in our club that has a radar detector uses the V1. Even had someone else on a trip, compare his detector to the V1. He bought the V1 the following week. It has saved me $$$ several times.

I put my V1 beside the pillar post.
It's a good spot and LEOs and thieves don't see it.

Had to make a spacer out of aluminum due to the curve of the glass.

I run the Escort Redline..

Not useful for city driving at ALL.

Freeways though are another story... saved my butt quite a few times..

Just remember, some cops will use a remote to trigger their detector on / off briefly to clock people. Detector goes banana's for a few seconds while they clock you without a prior build up. Hehehehhe.

:P

I own 3 cars and EVERY one has a hard wired Valentine 1. Couldn't live without them...

I live in a suburb full of Police ( as a Police base is in my suburb ) and they bust you for doing the slightest over the speed limit.

I run into radar almost daily coming in and out of our small town....

Valentine or Escort. Use as key words in search. Lots to read...Chevy or Ford.

I've always preferred Escort.

I have the passport 9500i in both my truck and vette. Works great, no BS false warnings, but great warnings when real radar, laser, KA or K bands hit it. I travel a lot and the Passport gives me at least a mile of warning every time! Both are mounted on rear view mirror, looks great and works great!

I run the Bel V995. It has the same internals as the Escort 8500 and is less expensive, has saved me numerous times, the range is excellent. Many don't realize many Bel and Escort models are the same internally.

If I were buying new now and inexpensively, I'd go for the DFR7, the successor to the LDR50. I think the V1 used to be great, but now there are better high end options like the Escort RedLine.

VortexRadar on Youtube has a channel dedicated completely to radar detectors and does TONS of testing and is way more knowledgeable about these than anyone on this forum. He speaks highly of it and I would trust his reviews of any model you are considering.

Wow after your reply I was ready to purchase the Uniden but it looks like it has skyrocketed to $3-$400 in less than a month after his review.

I'm purchasing the MAX360 when I get home from deployment. I still run the 8500 X50. I'm long overdue an upgrade

I have a Cobra XRS 9940 and I'm happy with it. As a matter of fact, I used to have a leaser Cobra model n after several years I couldn't read the screen no more. I email Cobra and they asked me to send it over to have it checked n instead they gave me an upgrade at no cost to me, needless to say I was surprised n very pleased. I switch mine between cars n have save me some dough for sure n many fights from the misses.

In other words get one it won't hurt !!!

I have used Valentine 1 for almost as long as they have been around. I have them hardwired in all of my vehicles so they are always on when the ignition is on. You can't beat the counters and arrows. They have saved my butt many times when LEO's set up double radar ambushes. I have had the last laugh watching others speed up into a second trap as I cruised by ticket free. I even got a thumbs up from a South Carolina trooper as they were pulling over 7 SUV speeders in a massive ambush they had on I-95 south during tourist season. I was the only one not getting stopped. The aforementioned victims were giving me the finger because I was preventing them from accelerating past the first trap. Like the old Amex slogan, I never leave home without it.

I have the Valentine and love it. That said,,,,, If they use laser in your area, you better be ready to pay a ticket.

I seriously want a laser jammer. Its another $500. Its worth the ticket to ride!

Here is an EXCELLENT review on jammers. The ALP is the gold standard due to its ability to be up-dated to current laser technology:

I use the Uniden LRD950 and I keep it on the passenger seat where it can't be seen...works 100% from there.

I have the ALP for the new "rolling code" lidar guns on my Venza.

$500.00 is for 1 module only.
They are 250.00 each so on my Venza it was $1000.00
AL recommends 3 in front and 2 in back if you want back so a full set is 1500.00

Laser Interceptor stopped importing jammers 18 months ago because of the new guns.

Now that spring is almost here I'll be updating my Laser Interceptor on my Vette to the ALP

I think I'll go with the 3 in front.

Here's a post on ALP in a Vette from the C7 section

ive had my escort passport 9500ix for a couple years now in my fbody, now in my c5. while i do get false signals here and there, everytime it beeps i am able to know why. it has a memory function so you can store gps locations of detections you want to ignore. i never do though, as i would rather it beep and let me know anyways. i always consider it good insurance as anytime it beeps im immediately checking my speed so it keeps me in check. only really needs to save your skin once for it to pay for itself. i bought mine refurbished off groupon, so just be on the lookout for deals.
