I insulated around the shifter when I did the C6 Z06 upgrade... I still need to do the Torque Tube Tunnel...they say that helps also

Hi. Does anyone know if this is a known issue or was something removed to create this problem? Mine is a 98 and puts out a lot of heat! I can't see this being an issue from the factory.

The center console storage heater is a factory supplied feature. It's not in the manual or on the RPO options. It was RPO HOT. Just pop a frozen biscuit in there and it will piping hot and ready when you get to work.

You can fit a large fries and 3 cheese burgers in the console to keep them warm.

I put the Vettenuts C5 insulation kit installed in my car. As stated, it doesn't totally eliminate heat, but greatly reduces heat and road noise.

When I drive the car in the Winter to keep everything moving, never have to turn on the heater. The console's radiant heat is just fine.

I have Fat Mated my whole interior, then added this insulation to above the torque tube !!! (Bill Curlee mentioned in a post that the area around the torque tube should have sufficient air flow) I have had no issues and my console is no longer hot(or even that warm)

How did you install the Fat Mat above the TT... What did you do to keep it in place... no worries about it coming loose and wadding up around the TT? PICS? How ya doing buddy?

I cut it to fit and lay above the TT , it actually fits fairly tight on the driveshaft tunnel, and has not moved as of 8000 miles or so !!! it has a stiffness to it. How am I doing ?? other than being broke,(gas is cheap anyway) Fine !!!!

I think I'm going to wrap the exhaust first. I'm also leaning towards the Fat Mat above the Torque Tube.

I'm still looking for an answer as to whether this was an original design flaw or does it happen after something (I.E. a heat shield) was removed for some reason...

Tunnel Heat Buster

If you haven't seen this before, we have been using this for years now and you can typically see a 20-30 degree drop in console temps. East bolt in piece and very lightweight.
