if we're going to get into a discussion about "why dors it have to be loud?" i'd ask you a similar question, why does it have to be fast? why not get yourself a miata or an s2000?
no, seriously, i'm not being a smart *** i'm just drawing a comparison and making a point. some people like it loud, it sounds cool. just like some people like it fast, it feels good. most of the time the two coincide. in my opinion giving the finger to my new neighbors over a little noise is absolutely ridiculous. way to go, you just moved in and your making enemies. maybe simply asking to keep the throttle down in the area would have been a better idea.
trust me, i get what some of you are saying, being respectful in residential areas and to your neighbors in general. i usually go out of my way to do so. but i think some of you are blowing the whole "exhaust is too loud" thing out of proportion. its a perspective thing, maybe you guys do something those loud exhaust guys hate just as bad. you never know.
Awww come on seriously you all going to gripe because some like it loud? We can probably take a poll and ask how many are bikers with loud sounding Harley's?
My old neighborhood people hated me 2k TA headers cats loudmouth exhaust. People told me to quiet it down. Now the 3 other neighbors on the same block. Every morning they woke up the block at 5am when they left for work on Harleys or bikes with no exhaust. You think they said anything to them? Nope. They got a wave and a smile coming home.
If it was in a residential area, I can understand it. You don't say what speed you reached, but a loud exhaust can make people think you are going faster than you are.
Well I scanned through this thread and first of all I don't post much, just sit back and learn. But I didn't see any one even mention the "LOUD" stereos in some of the cars that go by "shaking the windows". I do have a stereo in my car but I know enough that if you play it that loud, it not only annoys the neighbors but also hurts your own hearing. There I have said my piece and will await the flames that I can see on the horizon.
Sometimes we forget that not all others share our passion but giving the finger to your neighbor because you don't agree with their interests is not cool. OP showed he was the bigger man by apologizing, even though he was not at fault.
This one is almost "silent" compared to my 1972 with Hooker 4" side pipes and no baffles! I got 3 Excessive Noise tickets that first year (in 1973) - once while idling at a red light! Those $200 tickets finally cured me of my teenage fetish with a loud exhaust!
I now have Corsa Touring and X-pipe on my C5 - nice and quiet - actually quieter than stock unless I punch it - even then not annoying - no fingers in 17 years yet!
I might be wrong, but I'd guess this is all about him feeling the OP was accelerating too quickly / driving too fast in the potential whereabouts of chillen', than noise.
My old neighbor used to accelerate way too quickly every time he drove up or down the street in his modded biturbo V12 AMG. Irritating. Glad he's gone (even if that thing did sound mean).

Your '72 was a real head turning custom.
My Black '99 has Kooks long tubes, x-pipe with hi-flow green cats and Magnaflow perf series exhaust which produces a slightly louder but much deeper tone at idle, not offensive at all. I am always considerate in my or any neighborhood and drive under the speed limit. No single finger salutes ever. Quite a few thumbs up.
The sound becomes very muscular and much louder when the pedal is depressed but not offensive either, imo.
Noise never killed anybody if anything it warns people of danger ..If you aren't driving like an idiot or speeding then is it really a big deal ? Bikers are three times as loud with drag pipes ,they usually speed and they do it all summer . People need to lighten up some ! Why even own a vette if you have to act like a prude grandma .
my ride is loud af but it pales in comparison to the everyday neighborhood noises especially all the freakin screaming kids playing in the streets after school...soooo can't wait to retire to a 55+ gated community down in clearwater
Stuff makes noise. Flipping someone off can get you killed.
Next time he's out with a leaf blower , flip him off, dog barking flip it off, ambulance,
fire truck flip them off, UPS man flip em off. I live close to an AFB, next time the
F15 Eagles are taking off they get the bird.
I look at passing through a residential neighborhood like going through a no wake zone with my boat into the marina. It's a putt putt idle in 1st or second which I have come to really enjoy. The neighbors are usually friendly and wave and it's hilarious when you putt by a yard full of kids. The girls don't pay that much attention and keep drawing with chalk or playing with their dolls, but the boys will drop everything they're doing, stop and just stare as you mosey on by often times give you a thumbs up or a big wave.

First off kudos to BAT for having the class to step up with the correct solution to the issue. CLASS ACT! I'll never understand the "I can do what I want
and EFF the neighbors attitude". Common courtesy anyone?
In reality he was just flipping you off because he realized you owned an automatic corvette

I haven't heard back from him yet (I sent him a message). I plan to stop there today, with a 12 pack of his favorite drink, as a peace offering, and as a welcome to the neighborhood.
