I did internal affairs for 15 years as a Lieutenant. We took citizen complaints very seriously and we fired guys when it was warranted. A lot of the complaints were against the same couple of guys that we all felt made us look bad. Usually we were able to weed out the bad apples within 2 years. As we used to say, "their deficiencies bubbled to the surface very quickly."

Not even. Police abuse cases make national news and outrage, many cops walk. For the record my first reaction when some video blows up is "what don't we know, what didn't we see"?

Some guys and gals are not cut out for the job.

see how long your community would survive with out these corrupt, self serving, power abusive people who have to walk up to a car with windows so tinted, that every stop could have a shotgun pointed at them on the other side of that window... People who put themself in harms way to serve the community only to have them trashed because of a few bad apples is just the reason there is so much disharmony. The lawless, will thrive off of those who embrace burning and looting in the name of justice.

I want to preface my comment with the fact that I have tremendous respect for the police force and they do not get the respect they deserve. I can not stress enough that I can not stand the anti police rhetoric flying around these days.

Now I was pulled over in excess of 60 times before I hit 25 years old so I have had my fare share of (conversations) with the law. Most and I really mean most officers are genuine people that are truly out to serve and protect. But every now and again you cross paths with a jackass that should have never been able to get a badge and it is not fun. But in my experience if you show respect. To the officer and most importantly do not lie to them you will typically not get a ticket or even a hard time.

My wife was yelling at me as he walked up. He asked how fast I was going. I said, "Maybe 70?" He said, "107 MPH on radar." I said, "I am sorry sir." He asked for license, registration, and insurance.

He went back to his bike and called it in. My wife was still yelling at me. He walked back up, smiled at me, told me to hold it down, and let me go.

My wife asked why he had not given me a ticket since I had admitted 70 MPH. I told her he had felt sorry for me with her yelling at me. That was a long weekend for me.

Your problem is not with the law but the need to put your wife in line.

Reluctantly, I will submit the following because talking to folks about motor vehicle summonses, moving violations or parking summonses, can be a volatile subject, especially if they have received one. I served 30+ years on a very active and busy PD, most of it in supervisory or commander roles. I can tell you that, for the most part, its a thankless and dangerous way to make a living. That being said, I always made a point of reminding my Officers that besides enforcing the law that they were to set an example for the public. When and if action needs to be taken, be fair and be professional, and that includes motor vehicle enforcement. The vast majority of our Officers were just that. As in every profession there can be a few that need correcting. If a citizen truly feels an Officer was out of line I would encourage that citizen to contact the PD about their concerns and ask that it be looked into. If the complaint is valid then corrective action should be taken. Generally speaking, engaging in heated argument on the street does little to better the citizens case. The place to argue is in court before the judge, not on the street. Again, if an Officer has conducted himself/herself in an unlawful and/or unprofessional manner, it should be reported. I would ask citizens to remember and recognize that law enforcement officers have a very difficult job to do, potential danger is everywhere. A current example is the police lieutenant who responded to an accident/overturned vehicle yesterday. On arrival at the accident scene he was shot multiple times by the very people he had gone to help and he very sadly passed away. Please keep in mind that 99% plus of our nations Officers perform many services for our citizenry, in many different roles besides motor vehicle enforcement, many times exposing themselves to danger and conditions that most folks would certainly avoid or run away from. Mostly without recognition or appreciation, under what can be very demanding conditions. Its a tough job and getting more difficult and demanding by the day. Everybody be safe and take care.

When's the last time any of you have rolled up next to a cop, saw a cop in the store or even at a gas station and said to him "Hey brother thanks for everything you do and watch your six, stay safe."?

Pulled over 60 times before you were 25..?. interesting. I'mM 72 years old.. I'm married 50 years neither myself or my wife have been pulled over. We have naturally never had a ticket... not even a parking ticket... I've logged over a million miles and have always had a head turner of a car, most high performance and unique. 60 times before you where 25 ???

There is no reason to be stopped if you are doing nothing wrong. Being distracted, not paying attention and not respecting the law ( INCLUDING driving a car that is compliance with the law.. and the inability to fix simple electrical problems that could not be fixed in 9 years. )vehicles not in compliance are a danger to everyone on the highway, that's why there are laws against the operation of an unsafe vehicle."will get you pulled over 60 times in 9 years..

ON the other point, we fly a lot, go through security and at each check point Both my wife and I thank the TSA for their service. WE ( my wife and I ) use our military ID cards with our boarding pass and in turn we, ( my wife and I ) always get thanked for our service.. WE fly American Airline all the time and its policy for Active military in uniform to board the plane first. every time they call up a flight to be boarded, the gate attendant calls us up to board first after any wheel chair fliers. Not a written policy, but respectful. same thing happens with Southwest airlines, and US Air before American bought them out..

My point here is respect is given and respect is received.. I cant imagine how or why someone would be pulled over 60 times in their life , let alone in the first nine years of their driving history..

ON another note, we fly a " WE support our local Police " sign on our front lawn. If I make eye contact with a police officer during my normal course of the day, I say thanks for your service to our community. Its all about respect... No, its not kissing ***, no need for that since we do not break the law. 60 times in 25 years ? wow.

I never said I was perfect but the point was as many times as I have been pulled over I still respect the police. I have experience with police much more experience than most will ever have and I still respect the police. They are for the most part good people that care about others. Now I will say that out of all the times I have been pulled over I have only gotten 5 tickets so that shows that police are not out to just write a ticket but they are there to serve and protect.

Oh you are far from perfect... what bothers me is you say one thing and disrespect the laws these guy have to inforce so my kids and grand kids are safe on the streets where you feel it is necessary to break the law... Apparently in those 60 times, you were given a warning 55 times, and yet still you continue to break the law... I don't have any sympathy for you since 55 times you were given a break, and still you continue to put innocent people, children in harms way. stopped 60 times.. your parents must be very proud.

Give me a break Captain America, you always drive the posted speed limit?

OK Mr Rogers" Ill be your neighbor ! Captain America ? I guess by that you are trying to show your disrespect for law abiding citizens.. by you analogy someone being stopped 60 times was caught every time he broke the law... but in reality by your own skewed logic you are defending a guy ( Kid )who broke the law hundreds of times in 9 years and only got caught 60 times... its people like you who cry foul because you got caught.

Also, If revenue was the driving force, you would think that in a miilion miles over 55 years of driving, I would have been a victim of revenue supplementing at least once. My wife has never had a traffic issue either .So isn't it amazing how two people who follow the law can go through life without a single issue and others 1/3 their age find them self in traffic court 5 or six times in their very young life.. . No matter how you spin it.. if you break the law 60 times, there is no defense for poor driving habits.. and NO, Not everyone is a good driver..

People are rarely stopped for 5 over.. even ten over... the trick for most cops is not a speed gun. its the ability to see how quickly someone catches their eye, who is driving aggressively, or by professional experience can pace the cars in view with their police cruiser and determine someone exceeding the pace. 5 over or even ten over wont get a cops attention but an absolute slam dunk speeder is easily targeted. These are techniques I've been privy too by two friend who are State police highway patrol.

All you need is a pair of slippers and a cardigan sweater.. Pathetic.. to single out someone with logic and be so stupid as to stick your chin out in a thread where logically most people heree respect the rule of law and those who enforce it , and always with their life.

I bet you are the first one with a brink in front of the TV store in your own community to steal from your neighbor in the name of justice The first through the window.
