Lower octane is not necessarily going to cause lower RWHP. The use of lower octane could cause knock and the PCM's knock retard is what actually causes the loss in HP. Knock retard is easily seen on a dyno chart. It looks like a sudden drop in HP that continues throughout the RPM range.

If your car does not knock with 89 octane then it is not going to make more HP with 93 octane. My Z06 will knock at WOT in fourth around the torque peak if I run 89 octane.
If it was octane it would have shown up on the laptop during tuning.

Why are you modifying and dynoing a car with less than 600 miles? I would say that either your car is not broken in, you got a lemon, or your aftermarket parts suck. A typical stock 02+ Z06 puts down about 355 RWHP SAE.

If all you are after is max dyno RWHP than you should certainly move back to the Cobra.
Be careful messing with this guy, his last name ends in a vowel... =;-]

He claims to be a new car dealer, so he can move lots of his cast-offs thru dealer auctions if that is true.

What I suspect is that he finds new toys in the incoming dealer stream, plays with them for a short while and then dumps them out to the auction lots when he gets tired of them.

Modifying his 4th! Z06 at 600 miles sounds crazy to me, the engine is barely broken in, but I am sure he makes up the losses from selling lots of Geo Metros and Avalanches...

I have the same plus the LG heads and cam....very happy with mine...I want to have it dynoed to confirm the 450hp advertised when i got the car last OCT....
How much rwhp should I expect?????????

Here are my two stock dyno pulls, and the one with the airbox lid removed...

HP

Torque

How do yours compare? I'd get around 1000-1100 miles on the car to make sure the rings are sealed, etc...

Sandra, are you for real?

Let's keep enthnicity out of the post's!
It IS my fourth Z but the first to be modded.
The (TOYS) I buy are from private owners. And yes, when I get tired of them I dump them.
And, we don't sell Geo Metros and Avalanches

Deanpug..You state you have taken this car to a shop that specializes in vettes.. I have to question that... these cars make a ton of power with JUST headers... this is PROVEN from many cars on this forum. your lack of power is most likely the tune job or as J-Rods post sugested. i would be asking whats the deal with this "specialty" shop.. Hey do what you got to do.. sell the car move on whatever. you obviously like the car or you would not have owned and modded 4 of them... why not buy that Viper since you have wasted a ton of cash on your car fancy's.. if you want that power SC in the first place why play aroudn with headers.. personally i think yo ujust want to cause drama on the list and we all fell into it... sell the car it deserves a better owner...

Don't know if anybody has mentioned, but are those numbers corrected. In these hot summer temps, they can really kill your power.

Thanks for your reply Chicago and your opinion. Some of you take this way to personal. J-Rods post was one of the very few that addressed my concern. I will tell you like I told another sarcastic poster, I have had four but only modded this one. It may very well be the tuner. I buy these cars at what I THINK is a little below market value, drive and/or mod them and then sell them hoping to break even at worst. As far as drama, you are creating it. Can't we just talk like sensible adults and not take things so personal? This is a hobby of mine, not my life. Perhaps I should have SC'd the Z. "sell the car it deserves a better owner..." GET REAL

Yes, I am quite real.

I simply pointed out that your last name ends in a vowel, what does that have to do with ethnicity? [mine does, too]

Yes, I did make the assumption you were a Chevy dealer, sorry.

Are you by any chance the owners son?

Much of the anger here directed at you, IMO, is jealousy at being able to buy and discard expensive sports cars like you change your underwear with little or no financial cost to you personally. I suspect you run them with dealer plates as well...

But I am not one of those people, I sold 2 houses to settle my family estate in Kahleefohrnia and moved to Jax where things are much cheaper...

You might want to pretend to be a young kid working a McJob who just got his first Z06 and wonders what he can do to make it even faster... [easy answer: get a Vortech blower installed and tuned professionally.]

Ok, I'll say it...

the numbers 'look' too low compared to what people have been posting on the forums lately on '04 Z06s.

'technically' though, they're not that bad cause 366rwhp is still about 431 crank hp and is over the factory stated 405. 26 crank hp with intake and headers tuned would not be bad normally. but again, compared to what others have been posting stock and with mods like the big LG name on it... i'd be upset too.

yes it's a low miles car but i have seen a lot of examples like j-rod's where numbers don't change that dramatically over more miles and am one of those that believe it wouldnt have changed that much over more miles.

it would have been nice to get baseline dyno numbers completely stock. even though recently posted numbers have been higher than factory numbers, it is possible to get one that dynos 405 at the crank... within acceptable levels.

curious... who was the tuner? did they try to dyno with just straight pipe?

my two cents would have been to see if the cats could have been clogged.

too bad we couldnt spend more time figuring it out for ya.

good luck.

Only pulled 366rwhp and 359rwtq Now for spending all that money on longtube headers and install. Hurricane intake already on the car as was the power duct, I was certainly expecting more. I am dumping this puppy with 600 miles on it at the auction on Friday.
I am that dissatisfied. Dean

This is were you come BEFORE you do your mods... Get some imput of what works and what doesn't so you don't waste your money. If you want really power, you need to go inside the motor or forced induction. Add up all the common bolt on and your getting close to a head/cam upgrade.

No I am not the owners son. I am the GM. And I will not pretend to be something I'm not. At 45, I have paid plenty of dues. No College, just hard work. It is my hobby and a perk of my position to do what I do with vehicles. And if (anger) is what people on this site feel, shame on them. Never had anyone on the mustang forum direct any anger to me when I posted about Z's. Apology accepted.

Thanks Don, I am perplexed. The cats were brand new from LG and part of the header package. The tuner is Phoenix Performance Inc. and as I stated in an earlier post, they specialize in vettes. I don't know, I just expected more. Anyway, I guess this whole perf. car fixation I have is part of my Obsessive Compulsive Disorder!

i guess it's all moot but still curious.

thanks.

Hey how'd you know we had a hot tub !?! That thing gets it's fare share of use, but I really don't use the Z to "troll" I bought it to drive and rarely take it out when I'm going "out". I drive my beater truck so I can park anywhere and not worry.

The Jetski is a new toy that I've only taken out a few times, and that's just for personal enjoyment. I don't really use my "toys" to pick up women.

Not that it's relavent to this forum, but I just met a new woman the night before last at the gym. She's 6' tall and just graduated from Duke. She had a full ride to play volley ball and has a double major in IR and Business! Being 6'4" she's right up my alley. In chatting about sports I mentioned that I played college golf and left it at that. She picked me up later by syaing "Er... um... my last semester of college I just took golf. I really like it... so if you want to go hit ***** some time, hey do you want my number?"

Well today we went to play nine after work and we're going out this weekend

Funny you should say that.
As I went to the auction to pick up the vette today, as it didn't do what I wanted, I drove it hard for the first time. I didn't want to run it too hard with less than 600 miles on it. This car is sneaky quick! I must not worry about dyno numbers! I guess I will just have to bump into a Cobra
and put the C in Seattle.

On another note: The vette is so sophisticated compared to the Cobra that I just didn't realize how quick they are until today. Because of the smoothness and true road car that it is, it doesn't feel that quick.

Of course, at 45 with an eight month old, it would have been nice to put the baby seat in the back of the Cobra. Guess the little guy will have to wait.

Any chance you have a different rear gear set? Just based on other discussions on the forum, this can make the numbers look low, but they really aren't when you consider the charted performance. I agree with J-Rod as for smooth power delivery. Not in the same class mind you, but I owned a 5.0 with some mods, and went to a high po ignition system. Car seemed to have less power until I realized the car was smoother with MORE HP. Really can only measure based on the performance you want to measure. If it's on the street, it will be easy to tell.

P.S. - Even with the start of some fires in responses, I respect the way you have conducted yourself in getting information!
