I am convinced that one tank of bad gas will cause problems for several tanks. A friend and I both tanked up at a Sunoco station in CT last fall and within a few weeks we both had the fuel gauge issue. I ran some stuff through the tank and have since been using Shell. Last tank I ran down low with no problems and knock on wood no problems this year at all. If it is the Shell, it is very convenient for me to buy so I will just keep using it.
This past early summer here on the east coast Shell had put too much sulfer into their fuels. So that caused some gas gage problems, not to mention minor other things. Shell said by that these fuels would be out of the system by Aug.
I switched to Amocco fuel and the car seems to run better.
Here in NC we do not have Sunoco, except at the race tracks with Sunoco 100 octane and Leaded 110 octane. I would put in Sunoco 93 any time I could find it. I heard that Sunoco now puts 10% ethenol in their 93 octane fuel. Is there any truth to that??
Don't know how much I buy into this top-tier stuff, but I do know that my car seems to like Shell gas and always has. That is where I fill up 95% of the time if at all possible.
OK, I did some more digging on this. According to Chevron's website and the site www.toptiergas.com, Chevron is considered top tier. With the good reviews Chevron gets here on the Forum, and the sulphur issue earlier this year with Shell, I'll stick with Chevron.
