Now everything is back in synch. The column lock is engaging when the key is removed and disengaging when the engine starts.

Thanks for the good advise.

Same problem happened to me today. 03 vert mn6. While scanning thru this thread I decided to try the reset and happily I can say so far so good. The CLB from COH was ordered today and will be installed next weekend. Not taking anymore chances. Thank you John and thank you forum.

Default steering lock fix?

would disconnecting the battery for a while reset this message or removal of the #25 fuse help? should I try these things first?

Ok. I tried pulling the 25 fuse for 15 seconds. Didn't work. However, when I left the key on for a second to set the guages, I noticed the battery guage only showing 11 volts. I tried shaking the steering locks but to no avail. I guess the next thing to check would be removing the battery and having it checked. Correct? Shouldn't that be enough volts to be ok? The engine starts with no problem. The dealer told me on the phone that the recall had been done previously after giving him the vin over the phone. I've had this car about 3 months now. I've tried a few things but to no avail.

I went out again and shook the column locks hard to the left and held at the right and it came unlocked with no messages. WHEW! I will be getting the clb as soon as possible. Thanks for this forum i have become relieved! kudos to all.

ok so I have an A4/automatic car....it has had the original "fix" done and the steering wheel moves freely without the key yet I'm still getting this code. I had my local dealer order the "Harness K" and going to see if that helps. My question is if this dosn't work and I get a CLB will it be 100% relialble now that the problem is already there. Also I get a "pull key for 10 seconds and try again message" before the steering lock code is this the same problem or somthing else?

Default stuck

this is on an '03 z06 with 50k miles. no recall work done.

I'd installed a bypass ~ 3 years ago, never a problem before or since.

Yesterday i got the pull key / service lock messages, and the fuel cutoff.

Went into work, got on the forums for some help, tried pulling fuses, disconnecting the battery, cussing, etc. no help. Had it towed home.

Tried removing the CLB and reconnecting the lock motor, no difference. The column stays UN-locked. I was wondering if the bypass went bad, now I wonder if the BCM is bad??

Left the battery and fuses out overnite, this morning screwed around with it and got it to drive, once. The SECURITY light on the dash stayed lit. Haven't been able to duplicate what I did and get it to drive...

The fix I want, as some have mentioned on this thread, is to have the column lock, fuel cutoff, nullified. The local dealer said they'd not want the liability of doing that, they'd do the recall work first... from what I'm reading here it does NOT sound like any of that recall monkey motion is reliable. I've had the car dyno'd and don't want the added problem of a lost tune.

I need someone to hook me up with a Tech 2.

I'm in southern CA by Palm Springs. I'm thinking I need to upgrade my AAA coverage for the 100-mile tows... I'll go that far to get this fixed without a hassle.

Any input appreciated

Cheers

I had a couple recalls done on a 99 FRC, the last of which was the one that removes the collar. It's working ever since, but the check column lock message started coming on each time I crank it up. I reset the display, and it otherwise works fine, however I want to fix this latest aggravating issue. So is it correct that the CLB will not work after the recall has been performed?

Default CLB Revisited

"Service Column Lock" message yesterday on the DIC of the Y2K Red car when I picked it up from the paint shop (another story). What the _ _ _ _! This car is my favorite with 95K miles and has had the CLB installed for about 90K. Anyway it was not the "Pull the Key... " one and cleared with the reset button but the error message reappeared with every restart.

So, not to panic, go read a couple of screens of this thread to refresh my memory, went and pulled fuse 25 in the foot well. All is good again.

Again, I am very pleased that the Corvette Forum exists and the quality of the information is super.

Thank you all.

Neil

I had the recall done on my 99 and it has now messed up at least 3 times in 3 years. It messed up again yesterday. What should I do? Anyone know a tuner shop around middle Tennessee?

My dyno guy got rid of the fuel cut with HP Tuners. Is there any way to get rid of the scrolling "service steering column" message?

QUOTE "I had the recall done on my 99 and it has now messed up at least 3 times in 3 years. It messed up again yesterday. What should I do? Anyone know a tuner shop around middle Tennessee? "

99redvette2 probably any dyno shop that can work on your car has the software to fix the error.

I have a 98 vette which has had the recalls for the column lock done. I still occasionally have it start up and have the fuel shut off and not let me go over 2mph. I bought a column lock bypass, but I tried to put it in before, and i still got the WAIT 10 SECONDS message.... my mechanical skills are very limited, but is it as simple as just unplugging the Harness K and pluggin in the CLB ? or what?

thanks for all your help

I've had all the recall's done, column lock removed, new BCM, replaced faulty K harnesse's, been on a rollback 4 times to the dealer for the fuel shut off issue, etc., etc..

Dealer could never find a problem and no codes were left, car actually " fixed " itself a couple of times in my driveway over night. Sunday had the fuel shut off problem again while visiting a friend, again fixed itself over night.

Went straight to a tuner and had the shut off reprogramed to max.

Upon contacting a fellow forum member who is also the service manager at a Chevy dealer, I found out Chevrolet has come up with yet another fix for this problem. Involves a new column lock and current sensor that gets it's signal from a different location.

Contact RichieRichZ06 on this forum, he can give you complete info.

Now I am seeking a refund from GM for my out of pocket expense to have the reprogram done since GM was repeatedly unable to diagnose and repair the problem.

I did not mean to imply anyone should take them up on this, I was just putting the information out there.

I did ask Rich why GM had not notified me and was told the following " they didn't even notify their service managers, we only found out after contacting the GM tech department over a problem similar to what you were experiencing ".

And I think this is an admission that none of their "fixes " have worked so far, and everyone who has been plagued with this problem should be flooding their offices with requests for reimbursment for whatever expenses they incurred going to an outside source to solve the problem.

Well mines at the dealership right now going on couple of days, at first they tried to charge me for the work since they said the recall was already done. I wasn't sure as this was before I bought the car they said it was done 2 years ago so now I have to pay. Well I got GM on the phone and there taking care of the bill. I don't see why anyone should get stuck paying for this. I'm hoping this works out, but going to ordered a clb soon.. Sometimes your limited and the only option is getting it towed to a dealership.. oh btw the wheel didnt lock it was just the damn fuel cut that i couldnt clear.. So if there is a new fix I guess I'll be getting it lol

I just received my reimbursement claim form from fellow forum member C5 Bruce. I would be glad to pass one on to anyone interested. Tuning out the fuel shut off is a sure way of fixing the problem IF the column lock has been removed during one of their previous feeble attempts to correct this travesty.

This is the fuel cut issue and not the battery anymore. That just seems to be something that setsit off. Have you had the recall done? Check the FAQ for your next step. I had to get my fuel cut reset by a dyno tuner. I still get the message now but it has no effect.

Yes Chuck it was HPtuners. A simple change although I am still left with that scrolling error message to deal with.

AIR in Canada the law still requires you to have the column lock in place where here in the US I believe that GM has been able to get around that issue. (Their 3rd attempt at a fix for the US takes the locking ring out.)
Yes "not equipped" and 200mph cutoff. The service lock message was gone but I still have the "pull key and wait 10 seconds".
The locking ring seems to be out after the recall. I have no lock even with the key out. I think I can get rid of the last error by adding the CLB but it is not a priority.
There seems to be some conflicting info as to what, if anything the General will do if you have problems after the recall, but since I already have a custom tune for the s/c I am not letter them near it.

Had mine "fixed" yesterday at local chev store. I was told it was a new fix and the lock had been previously removed. They reprogrammed the anti-theft stuff and left the tune alone. "Says them"

No charge. Dealer said they sucked it up but I think the General may have done that. Anyway it's running great for now.
