Default Headers vs starter motor question

I'm still struggling with the header thing, guys. A few years back I had a '79 El Camino with, among other things, headers. It would fry the starter motor about every 6-7 months because of the proximity of the starter to the headers. Has anyone had this kind of problem with headers on their C5? Thanks in advance for your patience while I continue to mull over this mod.

Headers have come a long way in the past few years. I have not had any blown gaskets or burnt out starters at all when using GM gaskets.
They cost alot more than a set for an El Camino, but they function like stock. (well, except for the extra power)

I have had headers on for over 3 years and have not had any starter problems.

I have had my KOOKs on for about 1 1/2 years and have had no issues with the starter.
I am using the stock GM exhaust (header) gaskets and they have performed flawlessly too (no blowouts like earlier years.)

you can buy a "wrap" for the starter.

Same here. Couple of weeks ago I wrapped the starter with heat reflecting Thermatec self-adhesive wrap since it was exposed and easily accessible.

I will be installing my headers next week, where did you get the Thermatec wrap from?

TIA

Last time I ordered it at the counter at Advanced Auto right from the Thermotec catalog. The time before from:

http://www.horsepowerfreak.com/THEM_HEAS.asp

Btw, get the self-adhesive stuff. Their dedicated universal starter heat wrap uses SS clamp to hold it in place and is very clumsy to install in a C5. The self-adhesive stuff is very easy to cut to shape/size and apply.

Aren't the C5 starters different from the older designs? It is very light compared to them.
