yankeevette I agree with your post except for one thing. It has been brought up in this post, and I also pointed this out a couple of months ago in a previous CAI pissing contest.
I just don't know what else to say. Everything you posted is WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!
In Tracy Lewis post he claims .03-.04 improvement. Remember this is the vararam compared to a Vortex rammer cold air system. This system uses the hole in the radiator shroud mod for ambient air. Tracy is not comparing it to a stock box. EB if I remember correctly you gained .3 against a blackwing with no mod for ambient air. I believe vararam claims .3-.4 over the stock air box.

He was not comparing it to a Vortex. And I quote "Again, the Halltech, Blackwing, Vararam, all will show good gains, and we found the best performance w/the Vararam. The filter on the Vararam is the least protective of all in my opinion as far as engine protection, but we are racing this car 2-3 times a week and we saw the best performance w/the Vararam....but only 2-4 hundreths in the 1/4 (with all factors considered...DA, Temps, Fuel load, Track prep, etc.).

The last post EB says he gained .15. Let's keep the facts straight.
Tracy was comparing the Vararam to the Breathless Rammer:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show..._id=108&arch=1
"In conclusion, although we had many good years of winning races with the Breathless product, the Vararam is our choice and get's both Lewis Family Racing's endorsment AND the official cold air intake system of the Eckler's Florida Corvette Challenge Series!
I also expect Edgar, Mackey, Pannuzo, Keith Valone, Meen Green, Larry B and the rest of the hard-core bracket racers reading this to see how consistant you can make a C5 run for bracket racing!!!!"
I went from 12.53 with the Blackwing to 12.33 with the Vararam. Taking into account weather and 60ft times, the actual gain was 0.15 seconds over the best seen with the Blackwing.

Yea I was off on EB's gains. Not sure what I was thinking about there. But Tracy's comparison is against the rammer. It is not clear in the post you cite Bob, but in another thread posted earlier that was started by Tracy it is more clear that he was comparing the rammer to the vararam. These results are not surprising. If you compare a CAI to an intake that uses only air available under the hood you will see 3-4 tenths improvement, if you compare a vararam to another CAI the gains are going to be less, but none the less Tracy found them significant enough to choose the vararam.

Gary. My friend??? You and EB are either related or in business together. And Tracy's last post said .02/.04
You know to be honest I see no reason to switch out intakes for a .02-.04 gain. I guess maybe they expected more than that before they switched them out.
Ive been curious about this now and decided to try somthing.I stated in an earlier post that i have the twin rm racing intake and never get closer that 3 degrees above the ambeint temp.Well i wondered if it was because of the location of the filters or the design so i fab'd up a pipe that goes down directly behind the licsesns plate and put one of the k@n filters on it.I left the front plate off as well.I already had a box made of acrylic that closes off the compartment in the nose of the car from the engine bay.Using both of these i cruise around for 10 minutes watching the temps drop.Still 3 degrees of seperation. This filter is honsetly seeing direct air from the front of the car.No obstructions. It might as well be 2 feet in front of the car.Why will it not get to ambeint temp.It is basically getting air from relativly the same place as the vararam would.
