Default Throttle position question...

What position should I be reading on the throttle with the engine off?

I was running down some other issues and noticed when looking in auto-tap that it had a reading of 16.9. I have a TB that came out of a 99 and was redone by Shaner (S2). I still have my original.

Of the many responses I got while asking individuals their opinion one was maybe my throttle position sensor might be a little out of wack. I discounted that theory at the time, but...

TIA!

What is the problem? My first throttle body I got from Mark had a high startup RPM before it settled down, this resulted from him taking out too much near the blade but he was forced to because of voids in the material.

With the engine off, the throttle blade settles at an angle, it doesn't close.

I gotta admit I'm a little beyond my working knowledge here. I should have looked at it more closely. It was one of those things I noticed just as I was clearing some codes and shutting the program down. It didn't dawn on me until later. I'll have to go back and look closer later.

Is the position sensor part of the TB motor assy? or is it something else on the backside of the connector? I could always just swap in my old TB without much problem. Is there a way to t/s the sensor with just a voltage meter or something?

Any info appreciated. I probably should have got more info before I posted.

Take a look at this post link:

The black sensor on the TB is the TPS.

Hope this helps.

I thought your throttle plate had only two positions, Closed and WOT .

If its running right, leave it alone. I wanted to buy autotap or LS1 edit for my car, but Ill F-up the tune everytime !

Thanks for the heads up on that last DTE brace. I bought it

I just took off my throttlebody(stock) and the blade is open a little. I have a small gadget called a scan gauge. It gives a few readings of what the engine is doing. If I remember when the car was off it was reading 7% open on the TPS.I'll have pics of it Tuesday.

16.9 is a number you might see as desiac with car cold and key on only.
May be that Autotap defines it as tpos. In any case tps voltage is not a very meaningful number. The TB is not set by voltage at the factory. V is not a dependable measure for blade position. The blade is set with a jig. As was said if it starts right and runs right don't worry about it.

Knowing that it is not at 0 with the engine off is helpful thanks! The car is not running *quite* right which is why I am going over everything. After scraping up my hands and arms sat/sun I decided I needed a break yesterday, couch day!

After cleaning everything else up I am down to a single problem, which is when I accelerate from low to mid rpms, I get something I can only describe as:
1. It's almost more of a feeling than a sound, of motor-boating, but not from the rear exhaust, feels like at the engine power level. From say fourth gear at 1800 RPMs I go 1/3 throttle, instead of a nice growl and steady push up the RPMs, I get a gug-gug-gug-guga-guga-guga-gugugugugugugugug-vroom. I am amazed at my ability to describe this technically, not!
2. It's not something you can really hear, the car next to you wouldn't notice anything is wrong, other than I am not passing them as fast as usual. Seems to clean up around 3500rpms, or maybe its as I get on the throttle more, hmm.

Sometime this week when it quits raining I will fire up EFI Live Pro and see if I can get some better info from it. Auto-tap likes to talk in ohms, mVolts and volts, not very useful without being able to translate.

Thanks peeps!
