My 2004 ZO6 (out of warranty) all of a sudden is displaying letters, numbers etc…on the display and I can’t clear it? I disconnected the battery with no luck. Has anyone had this happen and if so what corrected it?
Jibberish would tend to mean that the serial data is being corrupted somewhere. Has anyone worked on the car in the dash area lately? Assuming it's not the source (i.e. PCM, BCM, etc.) I would first check the serial data connection to the dash area - maybe the connector is not firmly in place.

it is displaying across the screen ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
and it will go throught the functions but you cannot read them example is the fuil reading will look something like F^^L * ^ 023 ^^
My guess would be the character-generator chip on the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster - it contains complex circuitry, it is not a "dumb" component) has failed or is shorted. Any chance moisture entered the car?
Two things, the car is now in a high humidity area and my ac display one morning had condensation inside. The ac acted funny for about two hours until it cleared up.
I lift the batter disconnected over night and when I connected it the computer came up but was in Franch. I changed it and it looks good for now.
Thanks for all the great help. Not sure the problem is fully addessed but you guys have saved me some money for now...

Any ideas?
I get this in the winter on really cold mornings. After the car warms up and I pull the key and restart, it's fine the rest of the day.
I'm trying to figure out what it would be that would require me to shut down and restart to clear it, as opposed to clearing after it warms up while still on?
OK thought problem was fixed but came back from out of town and started car and computer was back to its garble... If I reset the computer by disconnecting the battery it seems to clear it up temperaraly. go figure... my have some connection problem.

Sounds like your IPC board is starting to fail. Will probably mean replacing the IPC or the main board in the IPC. The DIC controller is not connected directly to the serial data buss, it is controlled from the microprocessor in the IPC. From my little time of studying this it appears to be a Phillips chip very similar to the Hitachi HD44780 LCD controller. But it appears that the DIC controller maybe SPI controlled since they use a SPI controlled serial EEPROM in the IPC to store milage. I would love to find a schematic for these IPC to know exactly how they work if anyone knows where one could be found!
