why do cammed LS1s always tick?
You can quiet them some with the correct lifter preload. If you are running stock lifters, you want to be in the 0.080" - 0.100" range of preload with the stock rockers. You could just pull one rocker and make a measurement, but something like an XER lobe will be noisier.
I think Crane takes a little different approach, they go a little easier on the ramp rates of the cam and pop the valve faster using the rocker (assuming you are using the Crane rockers). It does make for a quieter setup though.

I'll be installing a G5-X2 cam in mine w/ comp 921's and I fully expect more valvetrain noise... it's not a problem to me.

Stock heads, lifters, rockers, etc. (for a limited time
).Engine is very quiet, no ticking. Inside the car with radio off, if you focus really hard, you can detect a faint "sewing machine" sound...but it certainly isn't obvious or noticible.
I was actually surprised at how quiet it was when I first drove it after the cam swap.
Of course I can never be content, so the car is in the process of being torn down again to flycut the pistons, and put on some stage 2 TEA 5.3 heads, GMPP "caddy" lifters, ARP studs, .040" Cometics, and probably some adjustable roller rockers.
I'd like to know more about these Cady racing lifters.
