Default While at full throttle i heard boom than

pop, pop, pop i looked at the temp' and oil gauge they were normal but the loud popping sound had everyone looking at the car while driving down the highway. got home, raised the hood and saw a quarter size hole in the header at the top, on the passinger side.
have to order new kook headers, only lasted three years, i guest they can't take the preasure from the procharger.

You may want to investigate what other damage took place, I have been told, but luckily never experienced, if the hole is too close too the exhaust port, the cold air that rushes in could cause damage to the valves and pistions.

Call KOOKs and see if they will help you out. There was a nasty post a while back where someone bashed Kooks after their mid section rusted out. Someone from kooks stated that if they would have call them befor being bashed, there may have been some adjustment help. Ide say that your engine should be fine. Call Kooks an d see what they say. Please let us know how you make out.

What did your "Mach" gauge indicate? I bet you just broke the sound barrier! I realize there are not supposed to be any "speed" related posts here and this was the only way you could tell all of us Corvette Forum members that you broke the "sound barrier"! You are just so modest! "See the USA, in your Chevorlet"

You sure something didn't break in the engine and get shoot through the header?

My Kooks mid pipe is rusting out too. I'd rather spend the money on a true stainless setup than give them another dollar.

When replacing the headers, have you considered eliminating the AIR system so you don't need that piece welded in?

Don't believe the center section is stainless, but the headers are.

car still runs great, moves quick, all gauges read normal and no codes to report. I hope i'm still good, if not i'll have to give Don (slowhawk) a call for help because i don't have a lot of experience working on these computerized motors. i can take apart my 68 pontiac catalina 400 motor with my eyes closed. rebuilt my neighbors 350 small block, but i'm still new to this (z06) motor.

I will contact you after my vacation. DO NOT start the car or DRIVE it!!! This is due to the heat/exhaust that comes out and WILL melt everything around that area while it can cause problems with the exhaust valve.

The AIR fitting blew out.I've seen it on every brand header out there.Easy fix with my welder since I've done a ton of them.Looks like I'll pack my welder up and head over.Takes about 5 minutes to repair.

With this problem being very common we do not sell headers with AIR fittings. All of them are race style headers now.

Even an AIR fitting by itself with just a block-off plate is a danger and is likely to eventually break off.

Don

Outstanding info! I'll have to keep an eye on my air tube fittings!

Mine blew off at VIR last summer... patched it w/ header wrap and a clamp from home depot and drove the next day w/ a minor leak.

Purchased Kooks race headers to replace and sold mine on here.

All brands do it.

Wow, for what they cost I would expect to see full stainless to the cat back. I'll have to scratch them off my list of goodies. David

They are full stainless now. Even the old coated ones help up good in the NE.

Kooks are the only headers I recommend.I'm sick of trying to seal exhaust leaks in other brands.

Raymond,Think you can do a quick patch to get it to my house? Will save me the time of packing up the welder, lifting it into the truck by myself and hoping an outlet at your house can support it.

Plus it's only 15 miles or so.
