C5 Reliability Poll....
All of my mechanical issues...mainly a blown engine, were because of mods.
The tech said it was a common problem, but I hadn't seen too much about it on here, but you're not alone.

Bill
-Leaky gas tank
-Leaky rear diff cover
-Leaky Oil Pan
-Leaky Axel Shaft seal (2)
-3 Gas cap failures
-Clutch Slave failure
All fixed under new or extended warranty thank god. The car is now out of warranty so I am hoping for the best.
- New transmission.
- Door switches almost gone (require lots of effort exerted in a specific place). Still a problem.
- Interior switches breaking off. Still a problem.
- Column lock issue. Car still constantly throws the code.
- Whining sound from front left when driving. Still a problem.
- Loud creaking sound over speed bumps. Still a problem, although I hear that it's an easy fix.
- Rocking seats. Still a problem.
- Windshield wipers will turn on randomly and cannot manually be controlled most of the time. Still a problem.
- Car spontaneously goes into limp mode. No interior electronics will work when it does. Still a problem.
- Car throws random codes at random times. Still a prob... wait, not a problem. Hang on, it's a problem again...no, wait...
- CD player non-functional. Still a problem.
- CD changer generally functional, but will not pull CDs out of the magazine at first. Takes several tries to get the changer to read the CDs. Still a problem.
- AC display went out. Fixed.
- Headlights often refuse to come up. May take several minutes' worth of attempts to get the lights to come up. Still a problem.
- Headlights may come up, but not turn on. Still a problem.
- Headlights may come up and turn on, but will shut off while driving. Still a problem.
- Headlights may come up, turn on, stay on, and shut off normally, but the motor will continue to run for several seconds after the lights are down. Still a problem.
- One of the DRLs went out. Fixed.
- Oil pressure sending unit went out. Still a problem.
- A couple of new batteries. Fixed.
- Currently unknown slow drain on existing batteries. Still a problem.
- Audio speakers on left side need replacement. Still a problem.
- Both fobs died a long time ago. Still a "problem," although I chose not to replace them.
- Parking brake non-functional. Still a problem.
And, of course, you have the usual creaks, rattles, groans, and fit and finish problems.
I'm pretty sure this is what you need for that problem: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...rocedures.html
Most Autozones carry the wiper motor.
*front bearing in torque tube failed -replaced clutch since it was apart
*front driver side wheels speed sensor failed- required new spindle assm.
*cabin temp sensor
*ebcm
* both headlight gears
*o2 sensor
*a/c compressor x2
*oil pressure sending unit
*fuel door release switch
*battery
*leaky diff seal. Fixed when tranny was rebuilt during clutch install
This car has been worth every penny!

I've had much more issues with the Buick GN and my GMC Suburban 2500 454 4X4 but that's a story for another time.

- Rocking Seat: bad seat tracks
- Driver's side lumbar: pump bad, solenoids board bad
- Dim HVAC display: free forum fix
- Intermittent power door locks: hey, it's a feature
- Intermittent horn
Since I bought it I replaced the Manual Transmission, Air valve for emissions, drivers seat track, bower motor and resistor, Battery, Power Brake Booster and had it confirmed it is one of the cars with the Oil Consumption issue by doing an Oil Consumption test. GM offered to pay 1/2 of the $3400 tag to fix the consumption issue but I plan on trading it in next summer so I did not fix it.
Car now has 24k on it.... Wonder what will get replaced in the next 24k miles???

1) CL - installed the bypass kit
2) passenger window regulator
3) changed thermostat due to overheating
4) dim HVAC display - resoldered connections
5) oil pressure sender - gauged pegged at max, will replace sometime
6) intermittent incorrect fuel gauge reading
7) driver side headlight motor gear replaced with bronze
8) intermittent 'fuel starvation' symptom on acceleration in 1st and/or 2nd gear - knock sensor possible culprit
9) on 2nd replacement battery
10) rattle from removable top, front driver side when going over unsmooth roads
11) dead key fobs
12) going to need the third set of tires soon
The above problems are annoying than anything else but it still puts a smile on my face whenever I hop in and drive.
