Default Fuel level stuck on E...will Techron help?

Knowing that 'search' is my friend, i found out about Techron.

Yesterday, at about 1/8 tank, the guage dropped to E and the 'low fuel' light came on. i restarted the car, but it has not worked since. the range is coming up blank on the DIC. so i added $20 of gas for insurance and parked it.

So, before i replace the level sensors, do you think Techron may bring mine back from the dead?

advice is much appreciated, thanks

YES! It will work. I had the same issue, two treatment of Techron fixed the problem. Sure beats taking the sending unit out.

Yep, worked for me; took one hour, and all was good.

3 or 4 tanks, and the thing has worked for 5 years now. Definately, Techron works.

You may want to switch gas suppliers, I know many of them get their fuel from the same suppliers but if you are strictly a BP guy then switch to something else and see if that helps too. You can clear the DIC code and the fuel gauge will work properly again....

That stuff worked for me as well on 03 Z06 when the gauges started to hang at 3/4 tank, never indicated full. One dose from the local auto parts store and all was good and has stayed that way so far, but plan to add a another dose every so often to make sure it stays that way. Should fix you right up.

It worked for me. No similar problem during the past 1-2 years.

I didn't have the more common symptom of "drop to E" but the gauge would hang up at 3/4 and then slowly creep up to full.

Two bottles of techron and all was well again. No recurrence after nearly two years. Maybe its time for a pre-emptive shot?

You bring up a good point. How often should the Techron be added? At first I thought I would add one at each oil change, but maybe once a year will do? Anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks,

Eric D

I used BG44K due to unavailability of Tectron here in Southern Ontario, worked great for me after one application. I have a second can which I will put in later this summer, regardless of gauge situation. Good luck, I am sure you will have good results.

p.s. BG44K was recommended on this site as an alternate to Tectron.

How many miles do you drive in a year and how often do you change oil? I don't drive over 6,000 miles a year, so I use a bottle good for 20 gallon treatment every year

I expect I'll have more then 6,000 miles this year, but the once a year seems reasonable. I'll give that a try and if the trouble comes back again I'll add it more often. I guess it's taken about 8 years for it to start messing up, maybe I really could get away with every other year... Sometimes I think about stuff far to much.

Thanks for the input,

Eric D

I dump a bottle in the tank at every oil change.

No gas gage issues since I started using Techron

Had the sticking issue about 5 years ago. Forum members told me about Techron and Top Tier Gas. I've only run Shell, Chevron and Texaco since, all come with Techron additive, and have "0" problems.

The same thing happens to me sometimes when I get on the gas and lurch the car hard. I guess seafoam works for most, but I just reset the code by holding down "options" hitting "fuel" four times and then doing manual diagnostics reset... and it resets the gauge every time. The best thing is, it doesn't cost a dime and it always works.

Techron or Seafoam works well too. If your sensor has a lot of sediment on it, you may have to use it a couple of times to get things cleaned up, thats what I had to do.
