I guess ' for no reason' was a bad choice of words. Better explained as 'sometimes chains break for no apparent reason' aside from the fact that forces exerted on them are greater than they can handle. So in short, i should probable get the LS2 chain, as I don't RR the car and hope the chain doesn't break.
Bigstik,
I may not have been very clear in my last post, sorry. My point is, if you find the cam drive chain stretched or broken, the cam drive system should to be scrutinized to find out what cause it. Just removing and replacing parts is not a good idea in my humble opinion. Odds are the same thing will occur again and maybe with more collateral damage then the first time. There are key components and conditions that can influence the amount of load that cam drive chain is exposed to. The solution may require replacement of one of the other key components other then the chain. The chain is just the messenger and is the one that normally gets blamed and killed. Sorry, couldn’t resist!

I agree with you on that. replacing the chain is like putting a band-aid over a broken leg. It might stop the bleeding for a little bit, but doesn't address the root cause.
I've never overrevved and it broke at 5K rpm in second gear WOT.
I was hoping that the rollmaster wouldn't break.
I am bringing this thread back to the top in case someone has figured out why chains are breaking. My double broke on Sunday while at the track. I had about 14 track days on the double (no dampner). I have never missed a shift or mechanically over revved the motor. At this point I am ready to get a new short block that can use the latest spring loaded dampner. How is the Katech chain holding up for everyone?
I called Fichtners (sp?) a while back when they were having a sale and they had the dampner. I ordered 2. Call them.. Maybe they have some in stock. I would also call Gene Culley. He may also have some.
I know that an LS2 chain will fit an LS1/LS6 with out any issues. When you use adouble roller or Katech chain, do they fit with modding anything. If mods have to be accomplished, what are they??
Oil pump requires spacers, which are provided with the timing set. Some have run into interference problems. I thought your car was back together? By the way, more money, but SDPC just picked up all remaining IRL chains that were at Cloyes and is selling them. Once they are gone they will no longer be available.
