The fob for my '99 frc had been acting up recently, I found this post and said "What the heck", I cleaned up the internals, soldered the joints and gave her a try, no luck, it wouldn't sync either, seemed dead to the world, I looked on e-bay and got disgusted with the prices I saw there, so out of spite I grabbed it one last time, stood in front of the car, squeezing those buttons and saying one last hail Mary, ready to admit defeat, and, IT WORKED!!! And it works great!!! C599, I owe you a 12 pack!!!

Son of a gun, it worked!! I haven't had keyless since I've owned the thing. You'll know it works when at the program part, it only takes a few seconds to learn the FOB. Thank you SO MUCH for all of the pics.

You need a small tipped iron to get down on those points... but it's better than buying a new FOB.

Did this an found more cold solder joints on the 16 pin intergrated chip. I hit all of them with iron an solder. Just save 400.00 bucks thanks . If any one needs a good rf reciver thats behind divers rear quater I have one. that was not the problem !!! 175.00 for the reciver.

This site is excellent! Mine just stopped working. As if the remote is dead. I replaced the battery. I'm a EE. I have checked with my volt meter. Done continuity test. Everything checks out. The red dots on the attached photos in here seem to not have any cracks on my circ board. I can place new solder on the contacts. I'm gonna clean it thoroughly and try it first.

The ones I have repaired looked fine also, I had to "probe" ie pry on the joints to find any that were cold and failed. I pry on each and every solder joint, then repair any that lift...

Also a good cleaning of course...

PROBLEM SOLVED. I soldered the 4 points even though they were not broken. PROBLEM RESOLVED. It don't make sense. Don't know why but my only answer is possibly the solder is bad on the board.

Now, at first when I did the re-training. Nada. Then when I walked away from the car it locked on it's on. So, the remote was detected. I mashed the alarm button and the alarm went off. So, I went back to my volt meter and checked the circ board and other joints. I remember reading all of the other Remote posts. Decided to put it back together and wait 'til the morning. In the morning, I did the following:

Resetting and Reprogramming Keyless Entry Remotes

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...ut-remote.html

Remote is working like new.

More info: When I checked one of my old batteries that I had laying around. It was not low. It was at 3.2 volts. So, the Soldering was the real issue.

Just wanted to say thanks to Fasthotrod. For 4 years I have had this problem with the fob for my 2000 C5 coupe. I even went so far as to take it to work and have one of the service engineers for the Corvette Team tweak the contacts in the fob. Nothing really helped and just recently it was driving me nuts because I would have to re-program the fob just about every time I would try to use it. Saturday I opened up the fob and took the soldering iron to it. I haven't had a problem with it since then. You are AWESOME!

Default Key Fob

I didn't see any broken circuit points after replacing the FOB with new battery and retaining the FOB. FOB didn't work. I then check inside again and noticed some small metal flecks between the prongs on the battery connectors. I remove them with a little screw driver. I also noticed the gold contacts on the solid state board for the battery prongs appeared by be dirty (in fact there was some stuff that looked petroleum jelly), since the FOB did not work anyway so I cleaned the gold contacts off with a Q-tip. Put in the new battery, sealed it up, retrained the FOB and it worked. If I don't post over the next day or two it will mean the FOB stayed trained and continued to work.

Spoolin,
Do you still repair the FOB defective units for the C5 ? I will be happy to send one and pay you for your time and repair. Thanks for response.
