i have a built head (reving 7.2) with a built bottom end 12.1 compression and the last owner used redline 10w30 oil but i cant find any around my area so im switching it to amsoil 10x30 with a napa wix oil filter
can someone school me if this will do anything to the motor or will it give the car any sort of problem any input will be appreciated
I would think most synthetics would be compatible since you will be draining most of the oil out.
Do you know how many miles the engine has on it with Redline?
As long as the oil meets or exceeds the GM spec (I believe Red Line does) changing oils is fine! You will be fine. When the Oil Life Monitor says change the oil, change it. It really accurate and dependable!
Redline can be bought on line. In my opinion it is a step above the other synthetics using a different base. Other oils should work fine as well. I am using the German Castrol 0W-30, which is 12.1 Cst at 100 degrees C. This is near the top of the 30 weight range. Redline is 10.6. Amsoil and Mobil-1 are closer to 10 Cst, near the bottom of the 30 weight range.

Vettenuts, is the Cst value for Amsoil and Mobil 1 with 0w -30 as well?
Well, this is odd. I just checked and the Mobil-1 5W-30 is 11.3 Cst and the 10W-30 is still 10. Not sure if the data sheet is wrong or they changed the 5W-30 formula. Amsoil is now 10.8 Cst in both the 5W-30 and 10W-30. Amsoil used to be higher but they had trouble staying in range as the oil wore. Then they reformulated and dropped the viscosity down to what I remembers as the low 10's. I ran Amsoil 5W-30 several years ago and when I changed it the oil had always snuck into the 40W range of viscosity. The used oil analysis on it was always very good though.
