Default Update.......

Well, I got an email from Bryan at LME today saying that RHS was sending out my block to a warehouse in Ohio, and should be there Friday or Monday. RHS is located in Memphis so I'm assuming that means it was shipped out today or will be shipping out tomorrow.

From there it will be shipped to LME in Texas, so I'm guess it will get to Bryan maybe by Friday, April 2.

Figuring they won't get started on the block until Monday, April 5th, and Bryan said it will take them two weeks to prepare the block, that means it should be ready to ship to XtremeMotorsports in Blountstown, FL on the April 19th.

So with any luck, Chris will get it maybe by April 23rd.

So I'm guessing my car isn't going to be seeing the road till the first week of May.

So how long has my car been in the shop? I've lost track of the number of months now....

Yeah, I think this has driven me somewhat crazy. I decided to bring the aluminum cradles home and am polishing the suckers. Sheesh, no one is ever going to see the damned things, but here I am making them all nice and shiny............ Yeah, this DEFINITELY drove me nuts....

What is preventing you from buying a forged ls2, ls7 etc........and calling it a day. Why does this have to be a custom block. Does this not add unnecessary cost and delays?

Everyone told him to do that. If you search for other threads he has made, he made one asking for suggestions. Everyone told him to go the simple route that would have been cheaper.. he didn't listen and learned the hard way that he should have.

"Everyone"? If I've told you once, I've told you a million times, NEVER exaggerate!

Well I guess simple and cheaper works for you as a way of life, but that wasn't the criteria I wanted uppermost in my specs for my new engine. So tell me Mr. Cheap and Simple, if you could afford top of the line, would you have done it?

Hell, everyone had different suggestions, even conflicing ones, so I guess you wanted me to follow everyone's advice, eh? But I'm sure you know what they say about opinions....

Pretty much everyone believes that the decision THEY made, or THEIR opinion is the best decision and/or opinion for everyone else to make as well. Regardless of the fact that perhaps the goals were different, and the ability to be able to get to that goal may be different as well.

I wanted what I wanted. Sorry you have a demonstrated inability to understand that concept.

If I could afford top of the line I would have it the cheaper way. Get a stock LS7 aluminum block, then put some forged internals, ported heads, and all the valve train. THEN a LS7 FAST 102mm so it all works correct.

Sorry, but if GM didn't have enough confidence in the LS7 block to use it as the basis for the LS9, well, I certainly don't have any confidence in it neither for FI....

So I'm going with an aftermarket block with the "forged internals, ported heads, and all valve train"

Anyway, last I heard the RHS block was supposed to leave the warehouse in Ohio on Tuesday last week headed to LME in Texas. I'm hoping it has gotten there by now.....

I wonder how many people have had large motors built, and how may have had more than one? I've had a few, and there can be build problems regardless of the block chosen.
I'm happy with my LS7, but the RHS didn't exsist when my motor was built.
Price probaly isn't the biggest factor when building a motor like this. They're to expensive not to buy what you think is the best.

Well, good luck to him. Apparently GM didn't think the block would last through their warranty period under the stresses placed on it in the LS9 configuration. I would suppose the engineers would have not made that recommendation knowing the flak they would get by ratcheting down from a 427 cid block... I know I lost a lot of interest in the ZR-1 when I heard that.....

Hey Rich,

Congrats. Looks like you're making progress again. Ignore the nay-sayers. Do it the way you want. I just had VA Speed build a 427 for me using Darton sleeves. It would have been much cheaper just to do the longer stroke but it wouldn't be anywhere near as strong.

Good luck,

Kevin

Bryan at LME is telling me that he expects to be shipping the engine out to XtremeMotorsports in the week of the 19th. That's what I have been expecting when I figured out a rough timeline. Of course, he still doesn't have that RHS block in house yet...... When that pig of a Warhawk engine went back to him, it took something like 11 or 12 days to go from north Florida to Texas. So I hope this isn't the same trucking company.

As for the naysayers, yeah, I know what that is all about.....

Sheesh.... I heard from Chris today and he told me he talked to Bryan at LME and he isn't expecting the block to show up in Texas till this upcoming Tuesday (04/13).

Will someone please explain to me why it is taking two friggin' weeks for that block to get from Ohio to Texas? And secondly, why the sam hill someone at LME isn't kicking someone's butt about these excessively long delivery times? I know when I had my business there is no way in HELL I would have put up with that kind of crap.

Seriously, would someone mind removing that "KICK ME" sign I must be wearing on my back?

Hey Rich, Man Im soo sorry to hear the problems you've had. I've been there. I had an LSx 454 built for me a few years ago from a very well known texas based engine builder, and when the engine builder assembled it with the oil pan and windage tray, they forgot to shim it for the 4.125 stroke crank. They also forgot to mill the back side of the oil pump. Needless to say, that LSx barely survived the initial start up..

Those of us who have ventured outside the traditional "Keep it simple" box understand what your going through.

Just keep telling yourself that it will all be over soon, and you'll be enjoying that bad boy motor before you know it.

FWIW, I havent fired my car for going on 20 months now. I know exactly how you feel..

Denial? Me? Heck, I've never denied that there are some bonafide jerks around here. Case and point..... Some people have nothing better to do then to try to rub salt into a wound. Hope I can return the favor some day.

Well, Bryan at LME said he will be shipping my new engine out on Monday. But since he is waiting for pushrods to show up on Monday as well, I kind of suspect that it won't be until Tuesday before that engine actually hits the road to Blountstown, FL.

Just to show you how insane this all got me, I went and dragged the front and read cradles home and went and polished the damned things. Sheesh...... NOBODY will ever see the darn things, but heck, at least I had some PARTS of my car back home to play with....

I probably could have spend another couple of weeks on them, but I'm glad it's time to get them ready to go back into the car. This was a LOT of work...
