Default Borla Stinger Weld Failure

Hello, I have a 97 A4 with 40K miles. I had the Borla Stinger cat-back exhaust installed when I had my rear gear pumpkin swapped out. Today I noticed the right side exhaust was drooping badly after my monthly drive. I went to Midas because I figured a hanger broke, and upon inspection, the weld in the pipe that connects to the bracket right before the muffler was completely separated, and the weld in the driver side was halfway separated. Luckily, Borla honors their Million Mile Warranty and will replace it. Stand up company. I never drive this car except in the summer, and had put on about 8k miles since 2003 when I installed this. Has this happened to anyone else? I don't abuse the car at all, but I get on the gas a little at stoplights if next to a Mustang . The car is subjected to freezing in the winter, and Midas cant weld stainless steel. It also appears to be some surface rust on the pipes. I LOVE the sound of the car with Stingers tho.

What happens with your old system that they are replacing? A little welding and someone could have a nice exhaust system.

Wow!...first I heard of that especially with 2 people.

My Stingers have been on for over 60K and are flawless...102.5K now on my 99. I bought the Stingers when they first came out on a GP from LAPD..I think they were $549 shipped 2 day what a deal

I've had mine for many years now and have never had a problem with their structural integrity. Normally, the 300-series stainless steel that Borla and others use will not rust unless there is an absence of air.

And I remember LAPD selling them initially, then stopped selling them (right about the time they started selling GHLs at a much higher price) just before their (Borla Stinger) popularity exploded. I just had to buy from a non-forum vendor when the cost was $550 during a group purchase event, since at the time, no CF vendor had them, especially at that price. Years later, I believe LAPD started selling the Borlas again. They were and continue to be among the very best sellers.
