Default need a timing chain damper

Does anyone know where I can get a timing chain damper for a LS6. I think they only used them on the late 03-04. This part was discontinued and my local dealer cannot locate one. Any idea where I can find one?

They were never factory installed except for some very early 97's. They were only available through GMPP. I contacted Robin at GMPP some time back about producing more but this was before the government take-over so not sure if it could be done now. I know of one person who make one and several have tried to modify the newer LS2 with the different bolt spacing.

Do you know what part number your dealer was looking for? The old number was 12570511 and the newest is 12588670 and list for about $20. This package includes the two M8x1.2x34 bolts. If you can't find it let me know.

The LS2 damper won't fit the factory threaded holes in an LS6 block, alignment issue.

I've been looking into this for an LS6 I'm upgrading and a few GM dealers list the old part but in the $140 range...assuming they actually have it on the shelf.

My block doesn't have the holes drilled so I'm considering the LS2 piece but haven't fully researched it yet.

Wow! I feel blessed!

I got one before they were made out of unobtainium.

Sure hope they wake up and make more soon!

The part number I gave is for the 2004 LS1 and LS6 engine. Yes, if it is an early block the bolt holes would need to be drilled and tapped.

it's easier to just get a quality aftermarket timing chain set without the slack in the chain to worry about.

That's the GMPP piece and about what I paid. If you can find it you may want to grab it. I didn't think there were any more actually out there as they have been out of production for a while.

My GM parts directory shows the part # you listed 12588670 as being applicable to the LS2 engine, not the LS1/LS6.

I suppose it's possible the 2004 LS1/LS6 was machined differently than prior LS1/LS6 blocks...but wouldn't be much consolation to the original poster who appears to have an '02.

My 02 ZO6 block was machined for the damper from the factory. Heres a picture of the damper installed:
