What you do is your biz but better to have car that IS fast and whisper quiet than a car that isnt and tried to sound the part.

Different strokes....

Brian,
go to youtube and type in borla straight pipes. I have some videos you can hear, stock ls1 w/ borla pipes with and without disk inserts. Sound is not that great with camera phone but you will get the ideal. I am about to install an x-pipe which I have heard will cut down on the gurging sound.
Honestly instead of spending big bucks on after market catbacks, this is a way to gain the sound you are looking for your vette.

Not sure how no mufflers would sound, but I can tell you that putting Bullets, headers and x-pipe on mine made a world of difference in sound. It's just incredible. I absolutely LOVE it and would not change my exhaust for anything else.

Running straight pipes on the car is a very unique sound and is obviously inst for everyone but I think they sound great especially at WOT. I have gotten loads of complements on the SLP loudmouth 1's that I have but then there are people who don't like it either.
My dad and I both agree that it sounds similar to an old muscle car, and if our 72 Monte Carlo had a high flowing exhaust it would sound very similar.
Too bad its completely original all the way down to the fender skirts with 28k on the clock.

In my opinion if i could have a whisper quiet sports car that did 0 to 60 in 4 seconds...Or a loud sports car that sounded good that also did 0 to 60 in 4 seconds i personally would choose the louder of the two.

Again there is a diffrence between being loud and sounding good.

Im not looking for any performance gains by removing the mufflers.

Im only looking for a louder sound. As long as it sounds good to me that is.

Thanks for your input.

And for understanding to each their own. Thats is a concept lost on a few people around here so it appears.

Bullets do help cut it down a little bit (barely) without restricting flow. I have two 3" dynomax bullets on mine and you can see straight through them (not even a screen in the way). They toned my car down a notch, but they are still pretty brutal.

True, getting that tone thats "just right" is what most are after including myself. Thing is you mod the motor enough to where youre moving enough air through there and its going to be loud no matter what. On this end this whole area is a ticket zone waiting to happen so with low gears and a highly modded SB just driving normally the car is too loud. Had a copper follow me for a mile or two the other morning and was wondering how long til I get pulled over.

On loud to be loud, you know the type..new full size truck with the loudest exhaust they could buy wanting to think its faster when in fact its aturd. To each their own.

Thinking about having the exhaust shop remove my mufflers and just straight pipe my 97.

I want it loud. But i want it to sound good too. Not just like an 85 chevy 305 pickup truck with a huge exhaust leak.

Let me know what i ned to know people.

Thanks!

Haven't had any probs with the motors of your cutouts touching eachother? I ask because mine touch like yours, was worried they would stop working.

Negative, they've been great for many years. Though to be honest, I don't remember the last time I closed them, they've been open for at least a couple years straight. Keep in mind, the motors have some sort of insulation over them too.

Thanks for the response. Yeah I find myself having them open more often than not, I absolutely love when I first crank it up.

With the exhaust outlets facing each other does it quiet it down some or is there another reason for that?

To be honest that picture is quite old. I tried it with the turndowns facing each other, facing the ground, etc. Didn't seem to make a difference, I ended up taking off the turndown extensions eventually and now it ends right at the cutout.

Does it make a difference without the turndowns cause Ive heard that with them facing the ground it makes it quieter or at least muffles it a little.
