I want to do the same thing...after I install my "new" heads and cam with the LT headers. I'm hearing all sorts of good things about a set of 4.10 gears with a C5 pushing 420-450 rwhp.

Not bad. Lower than I was thinking it would be. My car tacks just under1200 at 55 stock.

Double overdrive of .50 cuts that 4.10 down to a 2.05 final and only increases cruising RPM ~300

After 3 months of having the gears sittin in my garage I finally took the plunge. Installed was a bit more complicated than I thought but was done in 4 hours. Drove the car for 250 miles with out shifting above 3000 rpm. Last night I smashed the throttle and the car came alive at a good way. 1st the car feels like 50-70 more hp, breakin the tire loose, not goin faster but way more fun. Car feels way way more responsive. I am using some street and have some nitto 555r drag radials to be installed. Want to visit the track to see want is the improvement. Hope it holds.

Well i have 4.10 with M12 and H/C package. I love it on street/Hwy however on track i lossed ET, MPH isn great, best i ran W/2.02 60' was 12.50/122 Mph. 122 trap sounds good but no way i can launch this car without spinning them (tires new Nitto NTO5R drag radials).

Also lost 3-4 mpg mileage, best on Hwy on a 150 miles trip got was 21 mpg. So will be swaping to 3.73 or 3.42 original gears this winter.

Conclusion:
If you race and wonder about gas mileage too than :
MN6 with 4.10 OR MN12 with 3.73 will be like best of both world.

MN12 W/4.10 lots of fun but will loose ET on track unless you have CCW drag pack or similer with slicks and launching like there's no tomorrow...lol.

You need more seat time. And you know that. Don't blame the gears for your lackluster ETs

I did not use a hoist , just a jack and some stands. Tires, axles! Brakes, frame, diff, every thing has to come out.

Did you already have the gears installed into an extra pumpkin?

As it is, I already skip gears just because it's so smooth and torquey. I realize I could end up shifting a little more, but it still won't be anything like my MR2 was. That had 4.53 gears with 23" tires and a 6-speed.

legman, that's an interesting point about 1st gear. I'll keep that in mind.
screw cali. Do long tubes. Just need to find a guy who does goood smogs.

Break in for mine was 500 miles. You may experience gear whine for not breaking in properly. Hope not and I know it is hard to not try them out.

Absolutely yes, but due to loose traction had to launch at idle rpm or may be 1500 rpm..no matter what tires spin, i even tried launching in sec gear no help.

But i had 20 runs sofar and already broke the clutch (not known yet but thru inspection plate i can move flywheel...assuming right now FW bolts came loose. (Centerforce clutch, spec billet steel FW, GM new bolts torqued with red lock tight and new pilot/throwout slave wth remote bleeder).

My biggest problem now finding a garage to do job again.

Remember is not just the miles but also the heat cycles. The gears will get hot and expand and get cold and contract. This cycle will help the gears tooth "sit in" . I had only 250 miles but managed 6 heat cycles. Hope I don't experience the whine.

Got my gears from RPM Transmission.

How much of the topspeed do i have to pay for the better acceleration?

I have an C5 2003 A4 with 2.7 Gear i think. I often think about the change to a 3.9 oder 4.1 gear for more the fun on in the Hills. But im not sure if im going to slow then on the highway.
I think 150 mph is fast enough for me but i do not want go slower at topspeed.

Since I first posted I've added B&B shortys and Flowmaters as well as an LS6 intake. The engine makes good power, but I can tell it needs more cam. I'm going to look into a mild cam to help pick up the upper mid-range and upper end.

I still have a problem with 2nd gear not wanting to engage when cold. I think the original owner was banging 2nd pretty hard. As much work as it is to pull the trans and then do a repair, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna relpace it with an M12 and do a clutch and new couplers at the same time. I may go with different gears then or I may just repair the small leak and upgrade to the stronger C6Z diff parts at that point - haven't decided yet.

I'm on the fence about going deeper gears because I'm thinking about going supercharged. Boost and 4.10's would just make it a total traction loss and that's no fun.

Thank you; how long was each of your heat cycles and what rpm limit were you using.

Thank god I have suffered no gear whine! I have heat cycles of 30mins to 1 hour of driving and same time of cooling. Did this a couple of times. Installed an LS7 clutch with flywheel and now the car feels slower again I managed 12.7@109 mph, I picked up 2 mph with the gears but I feel that the heavy flywheel is killing me!
