I think the factory intake you're wondering whether you have or not is the LS6 intake. I don't know what year they updated the intake. I've updated mine. My car is in storage for the winter now, but from memory, look on the passenger side of the intake, between where middle two intake runners drop into the head, and you will see a part number melted into the face of the intake. The later LS6 intake ends in 3572. Not sure what the earlier ones end in. Otherwise, you can't tell without removing it....as far as I know.

Thanks in advance and I'm not sure but I don't think I do have the LS1 intake so if someone has a good one laying around in their garage, I might be interested in buying one from you.
All intake manifolds were the same on LS1 and LS6 engines from 2001 to 2004.....and no...it does not say "LS1" on it anywhere. While there is a part number molded into it (which you can search yourself), it is easily identified when removed...as being a 97-00 intake, or a 01-04 intake. In the pic below, the 01-04 manifold is on the left, with the flat bottom.

OK. Cool. After doing a little research:

http://www.corvettemuseum.com/specs/2001/specs.htm

looks like LS1 & LS6 were the only engine options in 2001. So I do have the LS1 intake--which is the same as the LS6 intake... I'm learning. So the only way I can upgrade to a better intake is getting an aftermarket, huh? Thanks for your input.

2001 and on have the "good manifold?" or is there a better stock option?

You will find most aftermarket intakes arent any better than the LS6 and pretty pricey.

No, you have an LS1 engine, with the ONLY intake made for both LS1 and LS6 01-04 There are many parts that are unique to an LS6 engine, but the intake manifold is not one of them for MY 01-04.

the next step up is to drop around a grand for a FAST intake and bigger throttle body to gain about 15 hp.

You are a little confused here. In 2001 the LS6 enigne came out in the Z06 model. With this new model came improvements such as the LS6 style intake. Some of these improvements were added to the base model coupes and convertibles as well. One of these was changing all intakes to the LS6(aka Z06 intake style) for all 2001 and up C5's.

If your car is not a Z06 then you have an LS1 engine all non-Z06 C5's had an LS1, however if you have a 2001 or newer you will have the LS6 style intake. This along with other improvements is why the earlier C5's 97-00 were rated at 345H.P. and 01-04's were rated at 350H.P.

I have seen on here however that a few early model year 2001's might have still gotten the older LS1 style intake, but I'm not certain on this. Best to check for yourself.

Why do you call it a "LS6 style" intake? It's not like the 2001 LS1 cars made a running change mid year. Both the LS1 and LS6 received the same intake manifold from 2001-2004; therefore, there really is no such thing as an LS6 intake, or an LS1 intake for that matter for the aforementioned years.

BUT.... According to Mr. Bill Curlee --above post & pics-- they are not the same intake. Seems to be come conflicting stories here. So, for now I will take Mr. Curlee's because I knew after my first ever 30 minutes on corvetteforum.com that Mr C is the Corvette God. ( I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy.... ) Thanks, Mr. C for your post. I have learned much from the info you have posted on this site.

So from what I gather, since I have the 2001, I do have the LS1 intake. I know now that when I replace my oil pressure switch and I put my intake back on, it is the best I can do without spending a grand for another intake (which was my original reason for this post).

Thanks all.

Well, this is where I step away from this goofy thread. I have tried to explain (in the simplest of terms), the difference between the model years, and the intake manifolds available. You are right about Bill being the absolute authority on C5's...without question......but rest assured, it is YOU who are confused.......

Good luck figuring this out.
